MAYETTA, Kan. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team completed the first two rounds at the Firekeeper Open at the Firekeeper Golf Course this afternoon. The Golden Bears carded a 309 (+21) in the opening round, before carding a 290 (+2) in round two for a score of 599 (+23), ending the day in 13th place.
Leading the way for CSP was Josh Esterley, shooting a 77 (+5) in round one, before shooting a 68 (-4) in round two to card a 145 (+1) across both rounds, jumping 54 spots from round one to round two and ending the day in a tie for ninth place.
Esterley's second round is tied for his second lowest single-round score of the season, matching his 68 in round one at the CSP Fall Brawl. The junior birded six times in round one, four of which came on the front nine, where he shot a 36. Esterley turned it on in round two, with three birdies and five pars on the back nine, carding a 34. On the front nine Esterley added three more birdies carding a 34 and dropping only two shots in the second round.
Freshman Carson Boe shot a 75 (+3) in both rounds, for a two round score of 150 (+6) in 44th place. Boe opened the day with two birdies on the back nine, shooting an even 36 before carding a 39 on the front nine to shoot three over par. Boe added two more birdies in round two to card another 75 to close out the afternoon.
Sean Leutner turned in scores of 78 (+6) and 73 (+1) to card a 151 (+7) to finish the day in 55th place. Leutner tallied six birdies on the afternoon, with two in round one and four in round two. The freshman also shot a 35 on the back nine in round two with two birdies and six pars.
Chase Camilli shot an 80 (+8) in the opening round and a 74 (+2) in round two to card a 154 (+10) and end the day in 76th place. Camilli's round two included five birdies, four of which came on the back nine where he carded a 35.
Rounding out the CSP was Trey Timm, shooting a 79 (+7) in the opening round and a 78 (+6) in round two for a score of 157 (+13) ending the afternoon in 89th place.
Cale Thompson competed independently and shot a 77 (+5) in round one and a 76 (+4) in round two, carding a 153 (+9) across both rounds to close the day in 67th place.
Central Oklahoma finished the day atop the team leaderboard, shooting a 288 (E) in the opening round and a 282 (-6) in round two to card a 570 (-6) for the day, opening up an eight stroke lead on second place Washburn. Winona State shot a collective 11 over par to end the day as the top NSIC squad at the tournament.
Myles Tarvin of Washburn sits atop the individual leaderboard through two rounds at the Firekeeper Open, after carding a 137 (-7) on the day. Peyton Coahran of Winona State is the top NSIC golfer through two rounds, shooting a 144 (E) across both rounds and in a tie for sixth place.
The third and final round of play at the Firekeeper Open gets underway tomorrow morning at the Firekeeper Golf Club.
