BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team shot a 307 (+19) in the second round of play to move three spots and into second place through two rounds at the NSIC Championships. The Golden Bears round two score was the lowest of any team at the tournament finishing one stroke better than Minnesota State who carded a 308 (+20) on day two.
The Mavericks currently hold a six stroke lead on CSP with a score of 616 (+40) through two rounds of play while the Golden Bears have a two round score of 622 (+46).
Addi Wood surged on the second day of competition moving up 14 spots behind a 73 (+1) round to end the day in fifth place. Wood started the day with four straight pars before closing out the front nine with a birdie on the ninth hole.
On the back nine the freshman made three consecutive pars before recording an eagle on the par five 14th hole, closing out the round with four straight pars to shoot a 35 on the back nine and ending the day one over par. Wood was the only golfer to record a birdie in round two, joining Rebecca DeLong as the only golfers with an eagle on their scorecards through two rounds of play.
Wood has a score 0f 153 (+9) through 36 holes entering the final round of competition.
Rebecca DeLong ended the day in fourth place, after shooting a 76 (+4) in the second round. DeLong was consistent all afternoon with seven pars on the front nine, while adding seven more on the back nine. DeLong leads all golfers at the tournament with 25 pars through 36 holes of play. Through two rounds of play DeLong owns a score of 152 (+8).
Ella Matzke shot a 78 (+6) in the second round of play, ending the day in 20th place with a 36 hole score of 159 (+15). Matzke managed six pars on the front nine and opened the back nine with four consecutive pars before birdying the par five 14th hole, closing the round with one birdie and 12 pars.
Piper Hill rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears, carding a 80 (+8) in the second round for a two round total of 164 (+20) and in 32nd place. Hill birdied twice on the front nine on holes six and nine, while adding 10 pars to her scorecard to finish the second round eight over par.
Darby Barstad was the final member of the CSP five and ended round two with a 85 (+13) and a two round score of 163 (+19) in 28th place.
CSP currently holds a one stroke lead over Wayne State who sits in third place with a two round score of 623 (+47).
Anaka Lysne of Minnesota Crookston and Gaia Stancikova of Wayne State are tied for first place through 36 holes with scores of 148 (+4).
The final round of play at the NSIC Championships gets underway tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Adams Pointe Golf Complex in Blue Springs, Missouri.
