BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team wrapped up the first round of play at the NSIC Championships in fifth place on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Bears shot a collective 315 (+27) in the opening round at the Adams Pointe Golf Complex.
Rebecca DeLong paced the Golden Bears, shooting a 76 (+4) in the first round and ending the day in sixth place on the individual leaderboard. DeLong made par on three of her first four holes of the day before recording an eagle on the par fifth hole, it was the only eagle in the opening round of play at the tournament and DeLong shot a score of 37 at the turn.
On the back nine the junior added six more pars to the score card and birdied the par three 17th hole to end the day four over par. DeLong tallied 11 pars in the opening round which was tied for the fifth most of any golfer on day one.
Darby Barstad put together a 78 (+6) opening round to end the day in 12th place individually. Barstad made par on each of her first four holes and added a birdie on the par three, eighth hole to card a 39 at the turn.
Barstad added one more birdie on the back nine on the par four 16th hole to end the day with two birdies and nine pars.
Addi Wood finished round one with a score of 80 (+8) to finish the day in 19th plays through 18 holes of competition. Wood made par of six of her first seven holes, before birdying the par three, eighth hole and shooting a 37 at the turn. The freshman turned in a 43 on the back nine however and ended the day eight over par.
Ella Matzke rounded out the scoring for CSP with a 81 (+9) in the opening round to sit in 26th place through 18 holes. Matzke birdied once on the par four 13th hole and ended the day nine over par.
Piper Hill was the final member of the CSP five, shooting a 84 (+12) in round one and ending the day in 37th place. Hill birdied once in the opening round on the par three, fourth hole while also adding seven pars to the scorecard.
Minnesota Crookston ended the team atop the team leaderboard after shooting a collective 307 (+19) in the opening round. Minnesota State and Sioux Falls both sit one stroke of the team lead after carding a 308 (+20) in round one.
CSP currently sits four strokes behind fourth place Wayne State, who shot a 311 (+23) in the opening round.
Anaka Lysne of Minnesota Crookston ended the day in first place individually after carding a 70 (-2) in the round one. Lysne birdied five times, including a string of four straight on the back nine.
Round two of the NSIC Championships gets underway at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Adams Pointe Golf Complex in Blue Springs, Missouri.
