WAYNE, Neb. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team wrapped up the first round of play at the Wildcat Classic in Wayne, Nebraska on Monday afternoon. The Golden Bears currently sit in sixth place after carding a collective 309 (+21) at the Wayne Country Club.
Three Golden Bears shot a 77 (+5) in the opening round and finished the day in a tie for 15th place. Piper Hill's first round score of 77 came with five birdies, as the senior golfer birdied on three of her first seven holes to start the day.
Hills birdied again on the par four sixth hole and again on the par five ninth hole, to finish the day with the most birdies of any player at the tournament.
Addi Wood started her opening round by making par on each of the first six holes and finished the day with 12 pars on her scorecard. Wood birdied once on the 316 yard, par four, fourth hole, finishing the day five over par and in a tie for 15th place.
Ella Matzke carded a 77 (+5) in the opening round as well, starting the day off with four pars and a birdie on the par five, 16th hole. Matzke collected one more birdie on the par five, 13th hole to shoot a 35 on the back nine, while scoring a 42 on the front nine to end the day in a tie for 15th place.
Rebecca DeLong shot a 78 (+6) in round one, making par on 11 holes and adding one birdie to her scorecard on the 285 yard, par four, 14th hole. DeLong ended the day six over par and in 21st place on the individual leaderboard.
Darby Barstad rounded out the CSP five and shot a 80 (+8) in the opening round, finishing the afternoon in 37th place. Barstad notched 11 pars on the afternoon, shooting a 41 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine.
Marina Allen competed independently and carded a 82 (+10) in round one, with 11 pars in the opening round. Allen shot a 43 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine to end the day in 52nd place on the individual leaderboard.
Minnesota State finished round one in first place in the team competition, carding a collective 297 (+9) and finishing the day with a seven stroke lead on second place Wayne State. CSP sits one stroke behind fifth place Nebraska Kearney and two strokes behind fourth place Augustana entering the final round of play.
Emerson Garlie of Minnesota State carded a 71 (-1) in the opening round to finish the day atop the individual leaderboard with a one stroke lead.
The final round of action at the Wildcat Classic gets underway tomorrow morning at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Nebraska.
