MAYETTA, Kan. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team sits in sixth place through two rounds at the Firekeeper Open. The Golden Bears shot a collective 322 (+34) in round one, before shooting a 304 (+16) in round two for a two-round total of 626 (+50).
CSP climbed two spots in round two after starting the day in eighth place, jumping Northwest Missouri and Minnesota Crookston to sit three strokes behind Augustana entering the final round of play.
Addi Wood sits in a tie for first place atop the individual leaderboard with Pella Broms of Nebrska-Kearney through two rounds of play. Wood carded a 147 (+3) across both rounds, shooting a 77 (+5) in round one. The freshman golfer tallied two birdies in the opening round while adding nine pars to the scorecard.
Round two is where Wood found her groove, scoring a 70 (-2) and coming up with five birdies to move up nine spots and into a tie for first place. For Wood it is her lowest single round score to date besting the pair of 71's she recorded at the Jewel Invitational earlier this season.
Piper Hill carded a 156 (+12) across both rounds to finish the day in 16th place. Hill opened the day by shooting a 80 (+8) in the opening round, tallying one birdie on the 11th hole. The senior put together a strong round two, making par on 13 holes and adding one birdie to the scorecard to shoot a 76 (+4) for the round.
Rebecca DeLong had a second round surge as well, climbing 19 spots to finish the day in 24th place. DeLong carded a 159 (+15) across both rounds, shooting a 83 (+11) in round one, with a pair of birdies on holes one and 17. In the second round DeLong scored a 76 (+4) with two birdies and 10 pars, matching her season-best single-round low after scoring a 76 in round two at the SMSU Invite.
Ella Matzke carded a 164 (+20) for the afternoon, shooting identical scores of 82 (+10) in both rounds to end the day in 48th place. Darby Barstad rounded out the CSP five, shooting a 171 (+27) across both rounds, carding an 88 (+16) in round one and a 83 (+11) in round two to wrap up the day in 59th place.
Marina Allen competed independently and carded a 163 (+19) across both rounds, shooting a 81 (+9) in round one and a 82 (+1) in round two. Allen notched three birdies on round one and added one more in round two, finishing the afternoon in 41st place.
Washburn leads the pack as a team through two rounds of competition, carding a 607 (+31) as a team to finish with a five stroke lead on second place Central Oklahoma.
The third and final round of the Firekeeper Open gets underway tomorrow morning at the Firekeeper Golf Club in Mayetta, Kansas.
