Golden Bears to compete at Mark Shuck Open this weekend

CSP to compete with 26 other teams, including eight NSIC squads

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will return to Mankato, Minn. for the third time this season on Friday and Saturday for the Mark Schuck Open and Multis hosted by Minnesota State.

MARK SCHUCK OPEN INFORMATION
The Mark Schuck Open and Multis will be hosted at Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday. The field consists of 27 competing teams, including eight from the NSIC. Live results and a live stream will be available free of charge. 

Friday's action will begin with the women's pentathlon at 1 p.m. and the men's heptathlon at 2:30 p.m., with a selection of individual events following later in the evening. Saturday will open with field events beginning at 11 a.m. and track events starting at 12:30 p.m. To view the full event schedule, click here.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears competed at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic hosted by Macalester College last Saturday afternoon, with the Concordia men finishing in fourth place while the CSP women finished in fifth place.

The men's team tallied a total of 65 points to finish fourth among the 13 competing teams, while the women's team finished with 61 points to take fifth out of 15 teams.

The men were highlighted by a pair of standout performances in the throws, as Cade Feist won the shot put with a new personal best distance of 53' 9.75" and Carter Krummen won the weight throw with a distance of 60' 1". Feist's shot put distance established a new personal record, while his weight throw distance of 56' 4.75" placed him second and was also a personal record. Krummen's weight throw distance was both a personal record and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, ranking 34th in Division II and third in the NSIC this season.

Sophomore Abid Alam set a new personal record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12' 3.5" to tie for 10th place.  

Senior Maya Lavendusky set a new season best in the shot put, using a toss of 41' 10.5" to place second in the event.

Junior Mehlayna Straub claimed the lone first-place finish for the CSP women, winning the high jump after clearing 5' 1".

Sophomore Nevaeh Coffer set a personal record in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.06 seconds. She went on to place sixth in the finals of the event after clocking a time of 8.15 seconds.

Fellow sophomore Genet Nies made her debut in the 600-meter, placing fourth with a time of 1:46.30.

NSIC TOP 10s
Several Golden Bears rank in the top 10 on the NSIC leaderboards in their respective events so far this season.

For the CSP men, sophomore Del Johnson owns the fastest 400-meter dash time in the conference at 48.80 seconds. His converted time of 48.04 seconds is an NCAA provisional qualifying time that ranks 20th in all of Division II so far.

Freshman jumper Fadel Johnson Jr. sits fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 47' 3" set on CSP's last trip to Mankato. Fellow freshman Thami Janus also ranks in the top 10, ranking ninth with a distance of 45' 1.75".

In the long jump, sophomore Cam Mata is fifth in the conference at 23' 5.5", while Johnson is just behind him in sixth with a distance of 23' 4.5".

In the throws, senior Carter Krummen ranks third in the weight throw with a mark of 60' 1" while senior Dan Otto sits ninth with a distance of 56' 7.25". Krummen's mark is an NCAA provision qualifier that ranks 34th in Division II.

In the shot put, senior Cade Feist ranks fourth with a toss of 53' 9.75" set last weekend in St. Paul.

For the Concordia women, junior Desiree Loyd's high jump height of 5' 5.75" at the Chuck Peterson Open ranks second in the conference. That mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifier, ranking 26th in Division II so far.

Senior Nyadio Chan cracked the top three in the 1,000-meter run last time in Mankato, clocking a time of 3:02.32, good for third in the conference.

In the shot put, senior Maya Lavendusky ranks sixth with a distance of 41' 10.5". In the pentathlon, sophomore Mina Nguyen ranks eighth with a score of 2838 points.
