NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their All-Academic Teams, Individuals and Scholar Athletes of the Year on Monday and Concordia-St. Paul had six student-athletes earn individual honors while both the men's and women's teams earned team academic honors.
This marks the 11th consecutive season that both the Golden Bear men and women have earned USTFCCCA Team All-Academic honors in a streak that dates back to 2015. The CSP women have now earned the award in 20 straight seasons dating back to 2006.
The Golden Bears' six individual selections matches the highest total in program history that was last achieved in 2022-23. For the men's team,
Calder Erick,
Dan Otto, and
Davion Williams earned selections while
Maya Lavendusky,
Mehlayna Straub, and
Cadence Tanner each represented the Golden Bear women on the list.
As a unit, the men's team logged a GPA of 3.08 while the women's squad logged a 3.21 as both teams joined more than 100 Division II institutions to earn the team academic honor.
In the indoor season, Vlad Malykhin of Harding was named the Men's Field Scholar Athlete of the Year while Harry Ross of Hughes, Lake Erie was named Men's Track Scholar Athlete of the Year. For the women, Hannah Richardason of Azusa Pacific was named Field Scholar Athlete of the Year while Annie Wild of Stanislaus State was named Track Scholar Athlete of the Year.
For the outdoor season, Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T and Isaac Botsio of West Texas A&M were named Men's Track and Field Scholar Athletes of the Year, respectively. On the women's side, Emy Ntekpere of Central Washington and Alexis Brown of Lenior-Rhyne took home Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.
The criteria for the USTFCCCA Team Academic Award is as follows:
- The cumulative GPA (not 2024-25 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, certifiable by the institution's registrar. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
- Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
- The cumulative GPA of all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be computed by the following method:
- Total the cumulative number of semester hours or quarter hours earned for all student-athletes on the NCAA Squad List including the most recent grading period;
- Total the cumulative number of quality points (GPA multiplied by the number of credit hours) earned by all student-athletes including the most recent grading period;
- Divide the cumulative number of quality points earned by the cumulative number of semester or quarter hours earned.
The criteria for USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes is as follows:
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale through the end of the semester of competition. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution's registrar.
- Must have been academically eligible at the National Championships in the respective season that his or her athletic mark was achieved in.
- Must have finished the season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor OR Outdoor National Championships, are eligible.
- Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor OR Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
- Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
