Golden Bears set to compete at Vanessa Seljeskog Classic

Events set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will stay local this weekend as they are set to compete at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul on Saturday.

The Vanessa Seljeskog Classic will be hosted at the Leonard Center on the campus of Macalester College on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., while track events will begin with the women's 3,000-meter run at 11 a.m. For a full schedule of events, check the meet dashboard on the live results page.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears competed in their first meet of 2026 last weekend at the Bearson/Gathje Classic hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.

Sophomore and reigning NSIC Indoor Newcomer of the Year Del Johnson got off to a strong start in the new year, winning the 400-meter dash with a new personal best time of 48.80 seconds, an NCAA provisional qualifying time, and a meet record at the Bearson/Gathje Classic.

Sophomore Zay Acosta claimed the only other event win for the Concordia men, winning the 600-meter with a personal best time of 1:24.64.

Making his collegiate debut for Concordia, freshman Fadel Johnson Jr. started strong with a second-place finish in the triple jump after clearing 14.40 meters.

The Concordia 4x400-meter relay squad of Del JohnsonJayden KuhlmanZay Acosta, and James Howard secured another first-place finish with a time of 3:27.98.

For the CSP women, senior Nyadio Chan set a personal record in the 1,000-meter run, clocking a time of 3:02.32 to claim her first event win of the season.

Junior Mehlayna Straub matched her career high in the indoor high jump with a mark of 1.58 meters, earning a second-place finish in the event.

Senior Maya Lavendusky finished second in the shot put with a distance of 12.49 meters, while sophomore Bernie Barnhardt took third in the weight throw with a mark of 15.42 meters.

NSIC TOP 10s
Several Golden Bears rank in the top 10 on the NSIC leaderboards in their respective events so far this season.

For the CSP men, sophomore Del Johnson owns the fastest 400-meter dash time in the conference at 48.80 seconds. His converted time of 48.04 seconds is an NCAA provisional qualifying time that ranks 16th in all of Division II so far.

In the 600 meter, sophomore Zay Acosta ranks 10th with a time of 1:24.64. Senior Ethan Blischke ranks 10th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:59.20.

Freshman jumper Fadel Johnson Jr. sits third in the triple jump with a mark of 47' 3" set last weekend in Mankato. Fellow freshman Thami Janus also ranks in the top 10, ranking ninth with a distance of 45' 1.75".

In the long jump, sophomore Cam Mata is fourth in the conference at 23' 5.5", while Johnson is just behind him in fifth with a distance of 23' 4.5".

In the throws, senior Carter Krummen ranks third in the weight throw with a mark of 59' 0.25" while senior Dan Otto sits seventh with a distance of 56' 7.25". In the shot put, senior Cade Feist ranks fifth with a toss of 53' 7.5" at the Chuck Peterson Open back in December.

For the Concordia women, junior Desiree Loyd's high jump height of 5' 5.75" at the Chuck Peterson Open ranks second in the conference. That mark is also an NCAA provision qualifier, ranking 25th in Division II so far.

Senior Nyadio Chan cracked the top three in the 1,000-meter run last weekend, clocking a time of 3:02.32, good for third in the conference.

In the shot put, senior Maya Lavendusky ranks seventh with a distance of 41' 6". In the pentathlon, sophomore Mina Nguyen ranks eighth with a score of 2838 points.
