Golden Bears set for NSIC Indoor Championships

Events to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday in Mankato, Minn.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will head back to Mankato, Minn. for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday.

NSIC CHAMPIONSHIPS INFORMATION
The 2026 NSIC Indoor Championships will be held at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn. on February 27 and 28. Events are set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. A full schedule of events can be found here. The championships will be streamed live on the NSIC Network behind a paywall. Live results are available for free here. Admission fees are as follows: $15 for adults (18 and older) and $5 for youth and students.

At last year's NSIC Indoor Championships, Concordia finished with five all-conference performers, including four on the men's side and one on the women's side, and two individual NSIC champions.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears last competed at the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota last Friday.

Senior Nyadio Chan put together another performance to remember, breaking a school record for the second consecutive week. With an indoor 800-meter time of 2:16.67, Chan broke her own previous CSP record of 2:17.86 set last season. Chan owns three Concordia records, clocking the school's fastest times in the indoor 800-meter and 1,000-meter, as well as the outdoor 800-meter.  

Sophomore Bernie Barnhardt set a new personal record in the weight throw, using a toss of 54' 7.5" to finish eighth.

In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Mackenzie Lovejoy tied her personal record with a time of 9.32 seconds, good for seventh place.

For the CSP men, freshman Jovani Iglesias set a new personal best in the 600-meter, clocking a time of 1:27.72 to finish in second place.

Senior Cade Feist finished third in the shot put with a toss of 53' 7.75", and Carter Krummen claimed fifth place in the weight throw with a distance of 59' 2.25".
 
NSIC TOP 10s
Several Golden Bears rank in the top 10 on the NSIC leaderboards in their respective events heading into the NSIC Championships.

For the CSP men, sophomore Del Johnson owns the fastest 400-meter dash time in the conference at 48.29 seconds. His converted time of 47.54 seconds is an NCAA provisional qualifying time that ranks 28th in all of Division II so far. Johnson also sits second in the conference in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77 seconds, ranking 28th in Division II with a converted time of 21.39 seconds.

In the long jump, sophomore Cam Mata is second in the conference and 15th in all of Division II with a distance of 24' 2.25", while freshman Fadel Johnson Jr. is just behind him with a distance of 23' 4.5", good for seventh in the NSIC. Fadel Johnson Jr. also sits fourth in the Northern Sun in the triple jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 48' 5.5", good for 39th in Division II.

In the throws, senior Carter Krummen ranks fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 60' 1". mark is an NCAA provision qualifier that ranks 52nd in Division II.

In the shot put, senior Cade Feist ranks fifth in the conference with a toss of 54' 10", and Dan Otto ranks 10th with a distance of 53' 11.75". Both of those distances are NCAA provisional qualifiers, with Feist ranking 32nd in Division II and Otto coming in at 47th.

Concordia's multi-athletes each rank in the conference's top 10 with their marks from the Mark Schuck Open on January 30, with junior Will Hugo scoring 4,555 points in the heptathlon, fifth most in the NSIC, while senior Jeffrey Odamtten scored 4,266 points, 10th most in the conference.

Freshman Jayden Kuhlman joined the top 10 in the 600-meter at the Ted Nelson Classic earlier this month, clocking a time of 1:23.38 to sit ninth in the NSIC this season.

For the Concordia women, junior Desiree Loyd's high jump height of 5' 5.75" at the Chuck Peterson Open ranks third in the conference. That mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifier, ranking 42nd in Division II so far.

Senior middle distance runner Nyadio Chan ranks second in the NSIC in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.44. Chan also ranks eighth in the 800-meter after shattering her own school record with a time of 2:16.67 last weekend.

In the shot put, senior Maya Lavendusky ranks sixth with a distance of 42' 11" set at the Gopher Classic.
