Wood sets program record as Golden Bears finish fourth at The Watkins Invitational

Freshman Addi Wood set a new 36 hole program low after carding a 71 (E) in the final round.

LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team wrapped up the final round at The Watkins Invitational in Lake City on Tuesday afternoon finishing the day with a team score of 309 (+25). CSP shot a team score of 612 (+44) across both rounds to finish the tournament in fourth place.

Addi Wood shot a 71 (E) in the final round, leading the way as the Golden Bears top scorer. The freshman tallied four birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13. Wood added one more birdie in her first nine holes to head into the turn two-under-par. Adding on another birdie on the 345 yard, par four, fourth hole, to finish the day at even par. 

Wood shot a 142 (E) across both rounds of The Watkins Invitational, finishing in second place one stroke off the top spot in the individual competition. 

Her two round score of 142 is a program record, besting the previous two round low of 144 set by Rachel Gray at the UIU Invite in 2013. With scores of 161 and 145 at the Tracy Lane and CSP/MSU Fall Brawl, Wood owns the best three tournament start to a career in program history. 

Wood's single round low of 71 is also tied for the third lowest single round low in program history, matching Isabella Dory and Sophie Hill. The program record single round low is 69 set by Rachel Gray in 2016. 

Rebecca DeLong birdied twice in the final round to card a 76 (+5) in the final round. The junior carded a 155 (+13) across both rounds to finish 18th individually. Her score of 155 is a career 36-hole low, besting her score of 159 at the SMSU Invitational last spring by four strokes. 

Sophomore Ella Matzke shot a 81 (+10) in the final round to card a 158 (+16) for the tournament, to finish in 26th place individually. 

Piper Hill tallied one birdie on the 334 yard, par four, 17th hole to shoot a 82 (+11) in the final round. Hill carded a 158 (+16) across both rounds to finish tied with Matzke for 26th place. 

Darby Barstad carded a 81 (+10) in the second round to shoot a 163 (+21) for the tournament, to finish in 35th place.

Arkansas-Fort Smith claimed the top spot in the team competition, shooting a 596 (+24) to finish two strokes ahead of Minnesota State. The Golden Bears finished in fourth place with a collective score of 612 (+44), finishing 10 strokes ahead of fifth place Wayne State. 

Emerson Garlie of Minnesota State, carded a 70 (-1) in the final round to shoot a 141 (-1) for the tournament to claim the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Addi Wood finished one stroke behind Garlie in second place. Wood finished the tournament with a four stroke lead on third place Ali Perry of Arkansas-Fort Smith. 

The Golden Bears will have a two week break before they hit the road for Edmond, Oklahoma to participate in the Grace Shin Invite hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma on Oct. 6-7.
