Erick in 11th place after day one of NCAA Outdoor Championships

The senior sits in 11th out of 16 competitors with five of 10 decathlon events complete

PUEBLO, Colo. - Concordia-St. Paul senior Calder Erick began competition in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon, ending day one in 11th place with five of the 10 events completed. Erick amassed 3,681 points on the first day of competition, sitting eight points ahead of 12th place and just three points behind 10th place.

Erick's best performance of the day came in the first event as he finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and set a new personal record with a time of 11.01 seconds.

The second event of the day was the long jump, with Erick placing 14th with a distance of 6.58 meters (21' 7.25").

Erick secured another top 10 finish in the shot put, finishing ninth with a toss of 11.95 meters (39' 2.5").

Thursday's penultimate event was the high jump, with Erick grabbing 13th place with a mark of 1.84 meters (6' 0.5"), another personal record.

The first day of the decathlon wrapped up with the 400-meter dash, where Erick placed sixth and set his third personal record of the day with a time of 49.38 seconds.

The decathlon will wrap up on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500-meter run.
