Concordia-St. Paul men’s golf concludes FHSU Classic in 14th place

Gutzmer leads Golden Bears tying for 20th shooting 219 (+9)

HAYS, Kan. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team finished 14th out of 18 teams at the Fort Hays State Classic on Tuesday. CSP shot rounds of 295 (+15), 298 (+18) and 300 (+20) to finish with a total team score of 893 (+53). 

Senior Thomas Gutzmer jumped up nine spots on Tuesday to tie for 20th finishing with a total score of 219 (+9). Gutzmer shot rounds of 75 (+5), 70 (E) and 74 (+4). The highlight of his day was hitting three straight birdies on holes two, three and four in round two. Gutzmer led CSP in pars with 34 and this is his fifth top-20 finish this season. 

Josh Esterley tied for 34th with a total of 222 (+12) shooting rounds of 73 (+3), 76 (+6) and 73 (+3). He tallied a team-high seven birdies in the tournament while hitting three in the third round. The sophomore also totaled 28 pars in the tournament and had an eagle in the opening round. 

Trey Timm finished tied for 47th at 225 (+15) after rounds of 73 (+3), 78 (+8) and 74 (+4). He had five birdies and the second-most pars on the team with 33. Timm shot eight pars on his final nine holes of the day. 

Tyler Debruyckere tied for 73rd shooting 231 (+21) and Tommy Marker tied for 76th shooting 232 (+22). Debruyckere's best round was the first and Marker's best round was the second where they each shot 74 (+4). 

CSP finished the tournament two strokes behind Missouri Western in 13th place. The Golden Bears were the third-best NSIC team with Minnesota Crookston tying for eighth and Bemidji State tying for 12th. 

Central Oklahoma won the tournament by 16 strokes shooting 850 (+10) as a team with rounds of 279 (-1), 289 (+9) and 282 (+2). Newman placed second at 866 (+26) and Colorado St.-Pueblo placed third at 867 (+27). 

UCO's Jordan Wilson took first place by eight strokes shooting 203 (-7). He shot 67 (-3) in round one and a tournament-best 65 (-5) in round three. The Bronchos finished the tournament with three golfers in the top 10. 

Colt Tenpenny of Colorado Mines placed second shooting 211 (+1). Minnesota Crookston's Lukas Justesen was the top golfer from the NSIC tying for sixth shooting 214 (+4). 

The Golden Bears are back in action next week for the final competition before the NSIC tournament. CSP will compete on April 7-8 at the Firekeeper Open hosted by Washburn (Kan.). The tournament takes place at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kansas.
