MANKATO, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2025-26 campaign on Friday evening at the Chuck Petersen Open hosted by Minnesota State, claiming 39 top-10 finishes and four individual wins.

The men were highlighted by sophomores Del Johnson and Cam Mata, each claiming an individual title in their respective events. Johnson won the 400-meter with a time of 49.88 to pick-up right where he left off after a star-studded freshman campaign.

Mata finished first in the long jump with a mark of 7.03-meters to lead the Navy and Gold's field events.

On the women's side, junior Desiree Loyd earned a top-finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.67-meters, earning her first podium finish for Concordia.

Wrapping up the top-spots for CSP was sophomore Mina Nquyen who was the lone Golden Bear to participate in the pentathlon. She earned a first-place finish in the pentathlon 800-meter race with a time of 2:52.37.

Head coach Sam Kettenhofen made his coaching debut at the helm of Concordia, helping lead the team to the largest number of top-10 season-opening finishes since the 2018 season, where they notched 40.

The Golden Bears will take a break for the holidays before they return to action on Jan. 16 for the Bearson/Gathje Classic hosted by Minnesota State at the Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.
