ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's swimming and diving team opened day one of the WildBear Invite with five first-place finishes, a school record and an NCAA B-Cut to top the leaderboard with 497 points on Thursday evening at the Butler Center.
With their day one score of 497 points, the Navy and Gold currently sit 239 points ahead of St. Kate's in second place.
Senior Chloe Rihon made the biggest splash, finishing the opening day with two first-place finishes. Taking the top spot in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.31 and 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.92 for her strongest day of the season.
Junior Sophie Leo once again rose to the top with her 10th first-place finish of the season, swimming with a time of 23.62 in the 50-yard freestyle. Leo also hit an NCAA B-Cut, her first of the season in the 50-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 23.60.
Sophomore Ava Reich broke the school record in the 100-yard fly during prelims with a time of 58.88 to make her early mark in the Navy and Gold.
Wrapping up the first-place finishes were both the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay, marking the first double relay win of the season.
As a team, the Golden Bears tallied 18 top-five placements and head into day two with their best swimming yet to come when they jump back in tomorrow. Prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Butler Center.
