ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team jumped up one spot to 10th place after shooting a team-best 291 (+7) in Tuesday's third round of the Holiday Inn Express Central Regional Preview. Trey Timm led the team's third-round effort shooting 69 (-2) for the lowest round of his career.Â
The Golden Bears finished with team rounds of 295 (+11), 294 (+10) and 291 (+7) totaling 880 (+28). This marked CSP's best three-round finish of the season beating 900 (+60) at "The Mule" to open the season.Â
Thomas Gutzmer finished as CSP's highest individual placer tying for 26th shooting 219 (+6). The senior spent most of the day at one over par in the round before shooting double bogeys on two of his last four holes. Gutzmer beat his three-round score at "The Mule" by five strokes.Â
Senior Tommy Marker shot 73 (+2) on Tuesday to total 220 (+7) for the tournament. Marker was very consistent throughout the tournament finishing with eight birdies, 32 pars, 13 bogeys and one double bogey. Marker's t-33rd finish marks his second-lowest of the season.
Josh Esterley finished with a total score of 224 (+11) tying for 51st, jumping six places from Monday. Esterley had a tough start to the day with a bogey and double bogey in the first five holes, but responded by staying even the rest of the round.Â
Tyler Debruyckere and Timm tied for 72nd after totaling scores of 227 (+14). Debruyckere's day was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18. He finished the tournament with rounds of 71 (E), 81 (+10) and 75 (+4).Â
Timm's 69 (-2) on Tuesday marked the lowest round of any CSP golfer at the preview. The junior shot three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey in the third round. This beat his season-low score of 72 (E) and his career-best score of 71 (-1) at last season's Watkins Invitational.
Central Oklahoma won the preview with an incredible score of 886 (-27), beating Southern Arkansas in second place by 31 strokes. The Bronchos had four golfers place in the top seven.Â
CSP was the second-highest finisher from the NSIC behind Winona State in sixth place. The Golden Bears finished ahead of Bemidji State in 14th, Minnesota State in 16th and Sioux Falls in 18th.Â
Jeffrey Johnston of Missouri Western won the tournament individually shooting 201 (-12). Every golfer in the top 10 shot under par. Mason Weeks of Sioux Falls was the NSIC's highest finisher in 18th place.Â
Concordia has a week off before wrapping up the fall season on Oct. 21-22 at the Washburn Invitational. The Golden Bears will tee off in Topeka, Kansas for that tournament at the Topeka Country Club.
