MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Concordia- St. Paul swimming and diving team opened their 2024 season dropping a competitive dual 151-143 to the Cougars of Sioux Falls hosted by the Golden Bears at the Two Rivers Aquatic Center.
Discussing the meet, head coach Rachel Busch stated, "The Cougars were a very tough competition and challenged us to be at our best. Our team showed up to compete hard as we knew they would, making today's meet a solid start to our season."
In a competitive first meet of the season with their largest roster in school history, Concordia brought home seven first-place finishes along with another 18 top three finishes.
Last season's NSIC Co-Swimmer of the Year Farida Maher picked up right where she left off, taking home a pair of first-place finishes, a runner-up finish and a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Coming off her NSIC Freshman of the Year title Sophie Leo jumped right back in also finishing with two top finishes, a runner-up finish and a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
On the diving side, CSP had their largest number of divers in school history with four competing divers. Junior diver Caitlyn Greenwalt led the day sweeping both events.
The Golden Bears will have a short break before returning to action on Oct. 19 where they will compete in a double-dual with Minnesota State and St. Thomas hosted right here in St. Paul at the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex.
