ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia- St. Paul swimming and diving team hits the pool once again for a double-dual against the Division I Tommies of St. Thomas and familiar NSIC opponent the Minnesota State Mavericks.
The Golden Bears won't have to travel far as the dual is being hosted by St. Thomas and will take place at the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex right here in St. Paul, Minn. First splash is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
On this weekend's meet, head coach Rachel Busch stated, "It will be great to compete again after having two weeks off from competition; we are eager to swim fast and dive well this Saturday."
LAST TIME OUT
Double-dual Against MSU and SMSU:
Concordia- St. Paul 183, Southwest Minnesota 135
Minnesota State 233, Concordia- St. Paul 84
The Golden Bears participated in their first double-dual of the season going 1-1. Concordia got their first win of the season over Southwest Minnesota 183-135. This also marked the programs first win over SMSU since the origination of the program.
Farida Maher highlighted the meet and was the lone first-place finisher winning the 500 yard freestyle. She also took home a runner-up finish in the 200 yard freestyle and a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle.
The Golden Bears finished with nine top three finishes in the meet.
HISTORY AGAINST UST
The two programs met for the first time last season where the Tommies edged out the Golden Bears 177-119.
ABOUT THE TOMMIES
UST was picked to finish fifth in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll marking their highest finish since joining the league. They finished the 2023-24 season with a sixth place finish at the Summit League Championships.
The Tommies currently sit at 2-2 in duals this season after opening their season with a win over UW- Green Bay. They hit a 0-2 streak against Minnesota and South Dakota State but bounced back last Friday for a win over Saint Ambrose 127-114.
HISTORY AGAINST MSU
The two programs have met a total of five times dating back to Oct 15, 2021. MSU holds a 5-0 all-time advantage over CSP. Last season, the Mavericks took the win over the Golden Bears on Senior Day.
This season, the two opponents faced each other in a double-dual the last time out. CSP fell to Minnesota State by a score of 233-84.
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
MSU was picked to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 59 points. They finished the 2023-24 season with a second place finish at the NSIC Championships.
The Mavericks currently sit at 2-1 in duals this season after opening the season at South Dakota where they fell 204-93 and then bounced back for two wins over NSIC opponents SMSU and CSP.
