CSP swim and dive returns to action against SMSU and MSU

Saturday’s double-dual is scheduled for 1 p.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia- St. Paul swimming and diving team returns to action on the road this Saturday against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State and the Mavericks of Minnesota State. Saturday's double-dual is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Don Palm Natatorium in Marshall, Minn. 

On this weekend's meet, head coach Rachel Busch stated, "This is the third year in a row having a double-dual with SMSU and MSU, each taking a turn at hosting."

Busch added, "We are ready to be back in action after another two weeks of intense practice. The women have been working really hard and supporting each other extremely well, and it will be fun to see all that pay off this weekend."

LAST TIME OUT 
Home Dual Against USF: USF 151, CSP 143

The Golden Bears kicked off the season with a home dual meet against the Cougars of Sioux Falls. 

Concordia had its largest roster in school history, including a record five divers. 

At the conclusion of the meet, USF took the win in a close, competitive meet with 151 points. CSP followed close behind with 143 points. 

Concordia finished with seven first-place finishes along with an additional 18 top-three finishes. 

Swimmers Farida Maher and Sophie Leo picked up right where they left off last season, each taking home a pair of first-place finishes, a runner–up finish along with winning the 200 yard freestyle relay. 

Caitlyn Greenwalt swept the diving events, marking her eighth meet winning both events in the Navy and Gold.  

HISTORY AGAINST SMSU
The two programs have met a total of six times dating back to October 15, 2001. SMSU currently holds a 6-0 all-time record including last season when they faced CSP in a double-dual at MSU. The Mustangs finished 29 points ahead of the Golden Bears marking the closest score since the two started competing. 

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
SMSU was picked to finish sixth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 23 points right behind CSP who tallied 35 points. They finished the 2023-24 season with a seventh place finish at the NSIC Championships. 

The Mustangs currently sit at 1-1 in duals this season after opening the season facing UMary and Northern State at the NSU Triangular. SMSU secured the win over NSU 122-101 but fell short to UMary 116-105. 

Southwest Minnesota State also finished first at the NSU Relay meet with 162 points. 

HISTORY AGAINST MSU
The two programs have met a total of four times dating back to October 15, 2021. MSU holds a 4-0 all-time advantage over CSP. Last season, the Mavericks took the win over the Golden Bears on Senior Day. 

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
MSU was picked to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 59 points. They finished the 2023-24 season with a second place finish at the NSIC Championships. 

The Mavericks currently sit at 0-1 in duals this season after opening the season at South Dakota where they fell 204-93. 

Last week, Minnesota State finished first at the Rochester Invite where they accumulated 817.5 points.
