LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team placed eighth at the Watkins Invite at The Jewel Golf Club. The team battled the elements after a rain postponement in round one on Monday, which caused part of the round to be played on Tuesday.
Trey Timm was the top golfer for the first team shooting 144 (E) over the two rounds. Timm shot 73 (+1) in round one before coming back strong with a 71 (-1) in round two. Timm found success on hole five in both rounds, shooting a birdie both times on the par three.
Brandon Sperling finished with a 146 (+2) to tie for 23rd. Sperling shot 75 (+3) in round one, but had a much stronger second round at 71 (-1). Sperling birdied five holes in round two.
Ben Rasinski tied for 31st shooting a consistent 74 (+2) in both rounds to shoot a total of 148 (+4). Hunter Robinson tied for 71st shooting 157 (+13) and Thomas Gutzmer shot 159 (+15) tying for 76th. The team combined for a score of 591 (+15) to finish seven strokes behind seventh-placed Augustana.
On the second team, Tommy Marker tied for 23rd at 146 (+2) after shooting rounds of 71 (-1) and 75 (+3). Marker birdied six holes on the weekend. Chase Camilli had the best round of any CSP golfer, shooting a 69 (-3) in round one. He followed it up with a 79 (+7) in round two to tie for 31st at 148 (+4). He did not bogey a single hole in round one.
Justin Kohlman tied for 68th shooting 156 (+12). Camden O'Malley tied for 74th shooting 158 (+14). Sam Rudolph rounded out the second team placing 86th with a score of 164 (+20). The second team placed 13th with an overall score of 608 (+32).
Winona State won the meet with a score of 563 (-13) as the host team. They were followed by Sioux Falls in second place with a score of 566 (-10) and Upper Iowa in third place with a score of 581 (+5).
Alessandro Trenta of Winona State won the meet shooting 137 (-7) at his home course. He shot the lowest round of the weekend at 65 (-7) in the first round. Mason Weeks of Sioux Falls placed second with a score of 138 (-6). Four golfers tied for third at 141 (-3).
The Golden Bears will be off for two weeks as their next tournament will be hosted by Missouri Western State. They will compete in the Holiday Inn Express Invite in St. Joseph Missouri at St. Joseph Country Club on Oct. 9-10.
