Golden Bears register 25 top-10 finishes at Maverick Open #2

CSP collects 15 finishes inside top five in final tune-up before NSIC Championships

MANKATO, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul made their second trip down to Minnesota State this week as they compiled 15 top-five finishes and 25 finishes inside the top-10 at the Maverick Open #2 on Saturday.

The men's squad collected 14 top-10 finishes, including 10 in the top-five, as Eben Mundfrom picked up the lone win for the team. Mundfrom's mark of 184' 8" in the hammer earned him the top spot in the event.

His win was one of five top-five results in throwing events for the men as CJ Picazo grabbed two while Cullen Feist and Dan Otto added one apiece. Picazo cleared 159' 1" in the discus to take third while his distance of 49' 3.5" was good for fourth in the shot put. Feist took fourth in the javelin while Otto followed Picazo in the discus with a fifth-place finish.

On the track, Tarnue David picked up a pair of strong results as he wrapped up the 100m in 10.84 seconds to take fourth and finished the 200m in 21.97 to take fifth.

James Howard and Taaron Rudzitis finished back-to-back in the 400m as Howard grabbed second with a time of 49.90 and Rudzitis claimed third with a time of 50.61 seconds. Jose Nevarez-Ramirez's time of 2:01.49 was also good for fifth in the 800m.

The women claimed 11 top-10 finishes of their own with five in the top-five.

Ella Paaverud picked up both of the team's best results in field events as she took third in the hammer with a distance of 162' 11" and fifth in the high jump with a height of 5' 5".

Lauryn Samuel was the top finisher on the track as she finished the 200m with a time of 25.33 seconds. Jaid Perry and Nyadio Chan took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400m as Perry finished in 1:02.19 and Chan finished in 1:02.35.

The Golden Bears added one more top-10 finish on the weekend as Sarah Jeppesen made the short trip to the Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday. Her mark of 123' 2" in the hammer earned her 10th in the event.

Concordia returns home next weekend as they host the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Thursday-Saturday.
