Golden Bears put up 17 top-10 results on the weekend

CSP sends athletes to the Drake Relay and Rider/Bolstorff Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Competing at the Drake Relays and Rider/Bolstorff Invitational over the weekend, the Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams combined for 17 top-10 finishes while CJ Picazo and Ella Paaverud each registered wins.

At the Drake Relays, the Golden Bears picked up a pair of individual top-10 finishes to go along with two top-10 relay finishes as well.

Arika Harbo was the top finisher as her height of 5' 6" was good for seventh in the high jump as she hit an NCAA provo. Eben Mundfrom joined her with a 10th place result in the hammer with a distance of 188' 6".

Tarnue David, James Howard, Taaron Rudzitis and Matthew Helser combined for a time of 3:32.58 in the sprint medley relay to take ninth while Lauryn Samuel, Destiny Mattingly, Sydney Jackson and Michaella Hartinger finished in 4:15.83 to wrap up 10th.

Just down the road at Macalester at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational, CSP added 13 top-10 results and a pair of victories.

The men's squad picked up 11 of those 13 finishes as CJ Picazo collected the lone win with a distance of 157' 6" in the discus. He was one of four top-10 finishers in the event as Dan Otto fell just shy of four feet short in second with a distance of 153' 8" while Carter Krummen took ninth and Keyshawn Pettis took 10th.

Picazo also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 46' 3.5". Otto added a second top-five finish on the day, taking fifth by clearing 139' 3" in the hammer while Krummen also took ninth in the event.

Cullen Feist chipped in a fifth-place result in the javelin while Calder Erick and Basheer Alam each took seventh in the pole vault. Payton Peterson put up the team's best result on the track as he finished ninth in the 100m.

Ella Paaverud picked up a win in the high jump for the women as she cleared 5' 3" while Maya Lavendusky added a ninth-place finish in the discus.

Concordia has their final tune-ups for the NSIC Outdoor Championships this week as they travel to the Maverick Open #1 on Wednesday and the Maverick Open #2 on Saturday.
