4.15.23

DECORAH, Iowa - The Concordia-St. Paul men's track and field team took second while the women took sixth at the Norse Invite on Saturday. Arika Harbo added a school record in the long jump while finishing second in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday and Friday.

On her trip to the west coast, Harbo tallied 5193 points to take home second in the heptathlon as she finished in the top six in five of seven events, moving her into seventh in the country in the event. She shined in the jumps as she won the high jump with a height of 5' 5.75" before setting a new school record in the long jump with a second-place finish. Her distance of 19' 1.5" edged a 20-year-old record of 19' 1" set by Adejoke Adedeji set all the way back in 2003 and moved her into 31st in the nation in the event.

Across the border to the south, the Golden Bear men collected 109 points to finish second in a field of 12 schools at the Norse Invite. Their mark was tops among three NSIC schools on the day as they put up 11 top-five finishes and six wins in the meet.

CSP grabbed wins in the shot put, the discus and the hammer as CJ Picazo won the shot put and discus while Eben Mundfrom won the hammer. Picazo cleared 48' 3.25" in the shot put and 160' 4" in the discus. Mundfrom put up a distance of 185' 10" in the hammer.

Ethan Blischke claimed the team's lone individual win as he wrapped up the 3000m steeplechase in 9:58.37. Concordia's other two wins on the track came in the 4x100m relay and the sprint medley relay. The 4x100m group of Jackson Klocow, Nate Segura, Tarnue David and Jerry Chanzu finished in 42.36 seconds while the sprint medley unit of James Howard, Payton Peterson, Taaron Rudzitis, Matthew Helser registered a time of 3:38.85.

The women picked up 53.5 points to take home sixth of 11 in the meet. The group collected 16 top-10 results with a pair of victories.

Ella Paaverud grabbed both wins for the women as her mark of 5' 5" in the high jump and her distance of 159' 10" in the hammer earned her the top spot in each.

Sydney Jackson added a pair of top-three finishes with a second-place result in the 400m and a third-place finish in the 200m. Michaella Hartinger chipped in a third-place finish of her own in the 800m with a time of 2:22.23.

Concordia will send a few athletes to the M City Classic on Wednesday before hosting the Holst Invitational on Saturday.
