GREENWOOD, Ind. - For the first time in program history, Concordia-St. Paul swimming and diving had three swimmers named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) (formerly known as CoSida) Academic All-District® Team on Tuesday afternoon for the 2022-23 season. This included sophomore
Charly Horn, sophomore
Farida Maher and sophomore
Laura Vekony, who were honored by members of the College Sports Communicators.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes swimmers across the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The individuals selected by CSC voters are recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
This year's three award recipients will advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. CSC Academic All-America Teams® will be voted on by the members of CSC.
Charly Horn (Breast/IM, So., Berlin, Germany / Humboldt-Gymnasium)
● 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District® Team
● Expected to be named NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence
● Collected a pair of top-15 finishes at the NSIC Championships
● Set two school records at the NSIC Championships
● Finished second on the team in scoring at the NSIC Championships with 10 points
● A member of four relay and holds three individual school records
Farida Maher (Freestyle, So., Cairo, Egypt / Egyptian American International School)
● 2022-23 NSIC All-Conference in the 100, 200, 500 and 1000 yard freestyle
● 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District® Team
● Expected to be named NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence
● Ranks in the USA Swimming top 50 in Division II in the 50, 100, 200 and 100 yard freestyles
● Set four school records with B-Cut times at the NSIC Championships
● Led the Golden Bears with 68 points at the NSIC Championships
● Holds six individual and a member of four relay school records
● 2021-22 NSIC Freshman of the Year
Laura Vekony (Fly/Free, So., Budapest, Hungary / Móricz Zsigmond HS)
● 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District® Team
● Expected to be named NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence for the second consecutive year
● Collected a pair of top-15 finishes at the NSIC Championships
● Was the third highest scorer for the Golden Bears with seven points at the NSIC Championships
● Holds the CSP school record in the 200 yard butterfly
