ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul soccer (4-4-3, 2-2-2 NSIC) fell short despite a late offensive push in Sunday afternoon's match to the St. Cloud State Huskies (7-2-1, 5-1-1 NSIC)1-2 at Sea Foam Stadium.
The Golden Bears will return to the pitch on Thursday to face the Wayne State Wildcats with action set to begin at 3 p.m. from WSC Soccer Field in Wayne, Nebraska. CSP will return home on Sunday to face the Augustana Vikings at 1 p.m. at Sea Foam Stadium.
The Golden Bears found themselves down early in the match after Gracie Parsons netted her second goal of the season with an assist from Krysten Schuster in the 17th minute of play for the Huskies.
Concordia controlled the pitch with a 55% possession advantage, along with one more shot than the Huskies in the opening 45 minutes. However, SCSU was able to provide two more chances on goal and most of their possession time was on the attacking side of the pitch.
After the Huskies added their second goal of the game in the 55
th minute from Schuster with a double assist from Ellie Primerano and Brooke Quam, CSP kicked into another gear. They would end up outshooting St. Cloud 10-3 in the second half with five of their shots on goal.
Sammy Ponsonby added her first goal of the season in the 80
th minute with an assist from
Sophia Haase. Ponsonby led the Golden Bears with two shots on goal, while
Sophie Pawlyshyn recorded a team-leading four shots.
In the 83
rd minute,
Katie Anderson headed in a free kick from
Belle Abruzzo, but the equalizer was taken off the board, and St. Cloud State held on to take the match, 2-1.
Jessi Jordan (2-4-1) made her seventh start in Navy and Gold this afternoon. She collected three saves and faced eight shots. On the opposite side of the pitch, Jaylee Strickland collected five saves in the win.
Tori Miller and Abruzzo anchored the Golden Bears defense as both played the entire 90 minutes.
Brittany Bordson added 76 minutes on the pitch and added a shot on goal.
