Golden Bears fall 1-0 on the road to Wayne State

CSP will return home on Sunday to face the Augustana Vikings at 1 p.m.

WAYNE, Neb. - Concordia-St. Paul soccer (4-5-2, 2-3-2 NSIC) dropped Wednesday afternoon's match 1-0 to the Wayne State Wildcats (5-4-2, 3-2-2 NSIC) at WSC Soccer Field.

The Golden Bears will return home on Sunday to face the Augustana Vikings at 1 p.m. from Sea Foam Stadium to conclude Homecoming Weekend.

"We dominated most of the game and couldn't quite produce the quality in the final third of the field that is required to win games," commented head coach Steve Bellis following the match. "It's a tough one and we need to bounce back for Sunday."

Concordia controlled the pitch throughout the contest as they outshot the Wildcats 17-2 with seven of their shots on goal. However, Wayne State was able to capitalize on one of their shots to secure the one goal victory.

Katie Anderson led the offensive attack for the Golden Bears. The San Diego native fired off a match-leading five shots with a pair of shots on goal. Corynn Grabau contributed with a pair of shots on goal after contributing three shots of her own in the contest.

Junior Jessi Jordan (2-5-1) made her eighth start in goal this afternoon and collected a save. On the opposite side of the pitch was Hayden Wallace, who had a much busier match with seven saves.

Tori Miller and Belle Abruzzo combined for 180 minutes on the pitch as they were the lone defenders for the Golden Bears to stay on the pitch for the game's entirety, while freshman Sophia Haase added a career-best 85 minutes on the pitch.

In the first half, Concordia was able to frustrate the Wildcats offense by holding them to zero shots and controlling the possession time with a 59-41 advantage. Anderson and Grabau led the offensive attack with a trio of shots by each of the forwards. In total, the Golden Bears fired off 12 shots with five of them on goal.

In the second, Wayne State broke the gridlock at the 55-minute mark after Paige Pemberton struck the net with a right footed shot from an assisted pass by Reagan Allen. From there, they held CSP to one shot on goal from Sophie Pawlyshyn in the 60th minute to secure the 1-0 victory.
