Lake City, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up play at the 36 hole Watkins Invitational at the Jewel Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon and the Golden Bears finished in fourth place with 598 strokes (+22).

The Bears competed in a field of 15 teams including nine from the NSIC. CSP finished as the third best team among the conference ranks with Winona State edging them out by one stroke for third and Bemidji State finished just two strokes ahead of the Bears for second.

Concordia's second team ended the Watkins Invite in seventh, just two spots back from the first team. The Bear's second group of golfers shot a combined 608 (+32), finishing just one stroke behind Minnesota State and one stroke ahead of Minnesota Crookston.
Missouri S&T claimed the tournament title with 588 strokes (+5).

"Good learning experience for us this week. We led the field in birdies but made too many soft bogies. We will get to work, clean some stuff up and get ready to compete in Topeka at Washburn.", head coach Peter Maki on his team's performance..

First Team-Tournament Results

After his tournament victory at Bemidji State, sophomore Brandon Sperling was once again the top golfer for Concordia, jumping four spots after round two to finish in 11th, with a two-round score of 148 (+4). The Golden Bear's top golfer from Monday, Tommy Marker struggled with his consistency in round two. The sophomore dropped to 18th after a Tuesday score of 77 (+5), to finish with a total of 150 strokes (+6).

The last two golfers for the CSP first team, juniors Ben Rasinski and Hunter Robinson, finished tied at 152 (+8). Top golfer for the second team, Trey Timm, had an impressive tournament and finished tied for 12th place. He shot 149 (+5), a personal record for a 36 hole tournament.
