NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - Concordia-St. Paul senior Taylor Zack (E) made history for the men's program on Saturday, clinching an invitation to the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships as the program's first-ever individual qualifier.

The fifth-year senior from St. Michael, Minnesota tied for third out of 108 at the 2022 NCAA Midwest/Central Region Championships at Purgatory Golf Club, advancing to nationals out of a three-way tiebreaker. Playing a par final round and finishing even through three rounds, it was only fitting that Zack added two more pars in the playoff on holes 16 (par 4, 474 yards) and 17 (par 3, 173 yards) to advance.

Zack will head to TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan May 16-18 for the NCAA Division II Championships, hosted by Wayne State University.

The Golden Bears (+58), 2022 NSIC Champions, tied for 18th in the 20-team field of the top teams from the Central and Midwest Regions, playing three consistent team rounds separated by 10 total strokes (302-308-312), missing the cut for the top-6 to advance to the NCAA Division II Championships by 26 strokes, or less than nine strokes per day.

#18 Central Missouri (+20) won the regional in a tiebreaker over #41 Grand Valley State (+20), while the teams are joined by #2 Arkansas Tech (+27), #31 Indianapolis (+30), #36 Missouri-St. Louis (+32) and #35 Findlay (+32) for trips to nationals.

Zack and Ohio Dominican's Robert Holden earned the individual slots to nationals, outlasting Devin Speight of Trevecca Nazarene in the playoff and edging Cade Uhlenhake (+1) of Washburn by one stroke. Charlie Delong (-1) of Grand Valley State was the regional medalist, topping Oliver Mast of Indianapolis in a playoff for the title with a par on 16.

Zack earned his route via consistency across Purgatory's array of holes, excelling the most on par 4 scoring (E) where he was fourth in the field, while playing -1 on par 5 and +1 on par 3. Overall, he was able to sink 11 birdies, tied for the fourth-most in the tournament.

His route to a 72 on day three was far from par for the course, playing +2 on the front 9 and -2 on the back 9. His front included a birdie to start his round while the back 9 featured three birdies, including two of his final three holes as he played -2 across the last four holes in a strong finish, coming just one shot shy of tying for first.

The final round was also part of his regional story, where he opened in 45th place with a solid +3 before shooting 38 spots up the leaderboard on day two with a -3, setting up his final round par performance to move up four more spots to secure the national berth.

His 216 three round score is a new season-high by one shot, topping his performance at The Mule on April 4-5 while producing his second-career 69 in round two, his first since his sophomore season in 2018-19.

While earning the first trip to nationals is the headline, it's also the top finish at a regional and the top three round score at a regional in team history.

Thomas Huettl also had an impact day for Concordia, producing a +3 to finish at +8 across 54 holes to tie for 28th overall, a two spot bump in the final individual standings with round scores of 71-78-75. He opened and finished strong, with three straight pars followed by a birdie on 4 before dropping a pair of birdies among his last three holes on 16 and 18. He was also solid at the turn, playing +1 golf from holes 9 to 14.

Overall, Concordia's full lineup contributed to the regional run, with all five playing sub-80 in round one and everyone scoring or tied for scoring on the team card twice with Hunter Robinson (+25), Brandon Sperling (+27) and Kurt Lambert (+27) rounding out the team's scoring.
