Huettl secures second-straight top-10 finish

Concordia finishes eighth among 18 teams at NSIC Preview

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Concordia-St. Paul junior Thomas Huettl has continued his strong spring season, tying for ninth place among 112 individuals at the NSIC Preview played at Adams Pointe Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Huettl was the third-ranked Northern Sun player in the field, which was comprised of 18 total teams and the Golden Bears were the third-ranked NSIC program among the 10 competing squads at the site of the 2022 NSIC Championships which will be held April 14-16.

Before the conference championships, CSP gets one final tournament test, playing at the Mules Tourney hosted by Central Missouri at National Golf Club in Warrensburg on April 4-5.

Huettl's run has been impressive, coming off of a week in which he was tabbed as the CSP Male Athlete of the Week with a sixth place finish among 84 at the Lindenwood Invite. He now has a pair of top-10 finishes on the season and four in his career.

He shot +4 this week, with rounds of 73-75 for a season-best 148 two-round (36 hole) score and has shot five consecutive rounds of 75 or better across the last two tournaments.

Huettl was backed up by senior Taylor Zack, who tied for 15th and made a 14-spot jump after the first round by carding a 73 in round two, finishing +6 for the tournament at 150.

Hunter Robinson also made a round two improvement, trimming a pair of strokes off his game to finish 80-78 (158) while Brandon Sperling was one shot off from Robinson at 80-79 (159). Nick Navarro rounded out the team lineup, making a five shot gain (83-78), scoring for the team on day two.

The individual roster was led by Kurt Lambert who produced a pair of sub-80 rounds (78-79), with his157 tying for 54th in the tournament while Ben Rasinski made a 9-stroke jump in round two (86-77).

Rogers State won the tournament at +4 golf as a team with back-to-back rounds of 290, finishing 17 shots ahead of Rockhurst. Winona State (598) was tied for third with Drury as the teams played identical 297-301 rounds with WSU finishing atop the Northern Sun programs by nine shots over Bemidji State and 16 ahead of CSP.

The individual medalist went to Luke Palmowski of Rogers State, playing -5 golf with rounds of 67-72, five strokes ahead of teammate Jack Junge (E) and Walker Tynes of Drury in a second place tie. Brady Holland was the top performer from the NSIC, leading Winona State at +1 to tie for fourth place.
