MANKATO, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul track and field team completed day one of the two day NSIC Championship with the men placing sixth and the women placing eighth in team score.
The men have secured 18 points and are just 0.83 points out of fifth place, held currently by UMary. Minnesota State commands a near-22 point lead in first place with 51.66 points. Northern State takes second place on day one with 31 points.
In eighth place, the women have earned 13 total points and are one point behind a tie for sixth between Minnesota Duluth and MSU Moorhead. Minnesota State also leads the women's side with 81 points, 49 points ahead of UMary in second place.
CSP had three top-five finishes in men's events and one in the women's events.
In breaking her own personal record, Arika Robinson won the women's high jump with a leap of 5'10" as she also broke the 2015 mark of 5-9.25 (1.76m) set by Augustana's Bree Woelber, the NSIC record to date. Robinson's previous personal best was 5' 9.75".
Andrew Johnson and Eben Mundfrom each took third in their respective men's events.
Mundfrom previously had a personal best of 63' 2.25" but improved to 64'2.5" on day one. The mark not only earned him third and a new PR, it broke the CSP program record, previously set by Mundfrom earlier in the season. Minnesota State took second with a 65'7" toss and Northern State won with 70'8.5".
Johnson marked a 23'6" effort in the long jump to improve upon his previous best of 23'4". He was 3" away from second place and 4.75" out of first.
The Distance Medley Relay group of Thomas Schauerman, Josh Sims, Emmett Faltesek, and Matthew Helser took fourth place in the event. The group was 1.25 seconds away from their previous season best as a collective and only 0.18 seconds out of a top-three finish.
