ST. PAUL, Minn. -  CSP swimming will return to action this Saturday for its third event of the season against Augsburg, St. Benedict and St. Catherine at the St. Catherine Pentathlon.
 
The event will take place in St. Paul at Butler Center on the campus of St. Catherine University and is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
 
Head Coach Rachel Busch stated, "This meet is different than most meets because it doesn't have the typical 13, 15 or 16-event lineup." She continued, "We're doing a 100 in every stroke (fly, back, breast, free and IM) and all the women will swim in all five events."
 
Busch mentioned, "Some of them will be swimming in events that they do not typically swim, which will be good for them to see because they are all gifted athletes and could very well surprise us."
 
"It will be good to see the overall well-roundedness of our squad and we'll have fun.", Busch concluded.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears kicked off the season at the Northern State relay meet against the Northern State Wolves and the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
 
CSP secured their first victory of the season with a strong performance from Giulia Cury, Farida Maher and Laura Vekony. The trio finished with a time of 17:15.70 in the 3x500 yard freestyle relay, which bested NSU by nearly four seconds.
 
The Golden Bears also finished with a time of 3:59.19 in their first-ever 800 freestyle relay with the trio of Curry, Charly Horn and Chloe Rihon establishing a new school record.
 
CSP swim capped off its opening meets of the season with a dual at Northern State the following day.
 
Maher claimed CSP's first individual event win of the season with a time of 5:31.29 and nine points in the 500 yard freestyle. The sophomore finished the dual with 16 total points after claiming second in the 200 yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard butterfly.
 
Freshman Emma Granovsky finished with the team's second-best seven points in the meet with a second-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle and a third-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle.
 
Horn, Vekony and Sydney Fleming also collected second-place finishes for the Golden Bears in the dual.
 
HISTORY AT THE ST. CATHERINE PENTATHLON
Saturday's swim meet will mark the second time in the program's history at the event. Last season, the Golden Bears were bested in the head-to-head competition but had a strong showing in the individual events. Horn was able to claim a top finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.61 and Maher won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.22.
