ABERDEEN, S.D.- The Concordia-St. Paul swim team competed in the Northern State Triangular against the NSU Wolves and the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State at the Aberdeen YMCA. Collectively, the Golden Bears had four top-three finishes at the meet, two being first-place rankings.
CSP came up short against host NSU 150-42 and was unsuccessful against SMSU 156-47, but Head Coach Rachel Busch was not discouraged.
"The Bears had a strong performance in the pool tonight, holding or improving their times from the Dragon Invite two weeks ago. We are excited for taper and will be ready to race at our peak at the NSIC championships in 11 days," said Coach Busch.
Farida Maher took first place in both of her single events in the meet and helped CSP earn a time of 4:00.28 in the girls 400 yard freestyle relay. In the 1000 yard freestyle, Maher earned her first place win with a time of 10:48.12, besting second place by 21.48 seconds. Her second victory was closer, securing first place with a 55.07 time, edging second place by .04 seconds.
Charly Horn took second place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:36.63, falling short by only 2.65 seconds. The swimmer also placed fifth in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:07.18 and was short of a top-three finish by 1.41 seconds.
Coming in third place in the 200 yard butterfly was Laura Vekony with a 2:25.65 finish. She also took fifth in the 1000 yard freestyle, swimming alongside teammate Maher. Stephanie De Leon took home a sixth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle in 27.24 seconds and seventh in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:32.72.
As previously mentioned, the Golden Bears look to compete in the NSIC Championships hosted at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from Wednesday, Feb. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 12.
