SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team drew in their match on Friday evening against Augustana (S.D.). After two overtime periods, the final score remained 1-1, moving the Golden Bears to a record of 1-2-1 on the season, 0-0-1 in the NSIC.
With a goal in the 60th minute, the Vikings took a late lead but a shot by Jena Berkland that went high and right would find the back of the net for the Golden Bears in the 75th minute.
Head Coach Steve Bellis referred to the match as a "scrappy affair." He continued, "Our team showed a lot of determination and battled to a respectable result versus a strong side."
The unassisted equalizer is Berkland's second goal on the season, putting her one goal behind team-leader Katie Anderson who has three. Anderson and Berkland also led their squad in the match with nine and six shots, respectively.
While Berkland's four shots on goal was a team-high, Sophie Pawlyshyn, Katie Anderson, and Bethany Weller all had two.
"Stat-wise, we dominated and perhaps should have taken our second half chances," mentioned Bellis.
The Golden Bears outshot the Vikings 23-11 and outpaced shots on goal 11-8 while possessing the ball 56% of the time. The Golden Bears spent 62% of their possession time attacking in the Augustana half.
Overall, Coach Bellis believes that his squad "will build on this and be ready for Sunday" as they travel to Wayne, Nebraska.
The matchup against Wayne State will conclude the weekend and will be played at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available as well as a live stream through the NSIC Network at https://nsicnetwork.com/cspbears.
The Golden Bears will play the following series at home against Minnesota Crookston on Sep. 24 and Bemidji State on Sep. 26.
