BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has released the 2021-22 NSIC Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll and Concordia-St. Paul was picked to finish third out of the 13 women's golf programs.
The poll is voted on by league coaches, and coaches may not vote for their own program. Concordia nabbed a total of 106 points with one first place vote, trailing second-ranked Minnesota State with 122 points and two first place votes. Augustana was picked to win the conference with nine first place votes and 139 points overall. Sioux Falls rounded out the top four, grabbing 102 points and the final first place vote.
Upper Iowa's MacKayla Olsen was voted by the league coaches as the preseason golfer of the year. Olsen earned 2021 NSIC Women's Golf Medalist honors after rounds of 78-79-77=234. Olsen held the second-best stroke average in the NSIC last year at 78.9 over 16 rounds and earned First-Team All-NSIC honors.
The Bears will enter the 2021-22 season with high expectations following a strong finish last year. CSP found plenty of success last spring as they finished fourth out of 13 teams at the NSIC Championships, their highest finish since the 2016-17 season when they finished third. The team also placed well at the Wildcat Classic where they finished third out of eight teams. The Bears will have no lack of veteran leadership this season as they will return six golfers and add one new freshman to the team.
Isabella Dory will be the golfer to watch for CSP this season. Dory is fresh off a 2021 spring season that saw her play 13 rounds for the Bears and average 84.08 strokes per round, the best average on the team. The sophomore played her best tournament of the season at the Hillcat Classic, shooting a 161 (+17) and finishing in seventh place. Dory finished 16th at the NSIC Championships with 248 strokes (+32).
The Bears will open their fall slate at the Tracy Lane Memorial hosted by Bemidji State at Bemidji Town and Country Club on September 13.
The three-round NSIC Women's Golf Championship will take place next spring from April 22-24 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri.
