ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul Director of Athletics
Regan McAthie has announced that Matt Bos has stepped down as head swimming & diving coach.
A search for the program's next head coach has been opened.
"While we are disappointed to see Matt go, we wish him the best in his future endeavors," said McAthie. "We are grateful for the work he has done to establish a brand new program under extremely difficult circumstances, and we look forward to watching CSP Swim and Dive build upon the foundation that he set."
Bos was hired as the program's first head coach in September of 2019 and was tasked with building the program during the COVID-19 global pandemic. During his tenure, the program opened its new pool at Henry Sibley High School, competed in a limited number of official meets during the winter and entered into the NSIC Championships.
Further, Bos introduced the program's assistant coach,
Arron Carlson, to coach the divers. While a search is underway for a head coach, prospective student-athletes may contact Coach Carlson about CSP and the swimming & diving program.
Bos joined the Golden Bears following a successful career at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis where he was 2013 Summit League Coach of the Year for the Division I program. While his family's relocation to the Twin Cities area provided the opportunity for CSP to land a DI-caliber head coach to start the program, it's also the reason he will be vacating his position at this time.
"We moved up here (from Indiana) for my wife's position and as she continues to have a ton of success in her professional career, her demands continue to increase. That said, after much reflection now is the right time for me to step away from coaching and pursue a different career path," said Coach Bos. "Although I knew this day would come, it is not easy. I feel like I have so much unfinished business here at CSP which is something that I will have to come to terms with. However, I am extremely excited to see this program grow and to see where someone can take it."
Bos concluded, "From the top all the way down, CSP is a tremendous place and provided me with so much support. I will forever be a Golden Bears fan."
