MARQUETTE, Mich. - Concordia-St. Paul (3-2, 2-1 GLIAC) had its three game winning streak snapped with an overtime loss, falling 16-15 to Northern Michigan (3-3, 1-0 GLIAC) on Friday evening at the Superior Dome.

It's the first overtime loss in program history and just the second overtime game the Golden Bears have competed in, the last was an 11-10 win at Florida Tech in the final game of 2020.

It was Concordia's first loss to Northern Michigan in the seventh meeting between the programs. The two teams meet again on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CDT).

The Golden Bears were led by Sarah Pierson and Molly Moynihan with four points each. Pierson scored three while Moynihan dished three assists. Sara McNicoll added three assists and Erica Peterson had a goal and two assists to give the Bears four players with three or more points in the game.

Pierson had 12 draw controls in the game, a new single game school record and combined with her two seasons at St. Leo she has reached 200 career draw controls.

Freshman goalie Maddy Huebner made 14 saves while taking her first career loss in the cage.

CSP had multiple scoring runs in the contest. After opening with a 3-1 lead in the first seven minutes of action, the Wildcats scored four straight to claim their first lead. Concordia countered with a 4-0 run of its own for a 7-5 lead late in the first half.

The Wildcats scored late in the first half, making it a tight 7-6 contest in favor of CSP at the break. Northern Michigan tied it back up early in the second half before Concordia went on another 4-0 run which was part of a larger 8-2 scoring stretch that spanned nearly 25 and a half minutes of the game.

The 8-2 run built a 12-8 lead for Concordia heading into the midway part of the second half.

From there, Northern Michigan began its comeback, scoring five in a row from 14:29 to 22:11, nearly eight minutes of play, to claim a 13-12 advantage with under eight minutes remaining.

Concordia wasn't buried, though, scoring three goals, the second two by Ellie Fedorowski to give Concordia a 15-13 lead with 1:41 to go.

The Wildcats rallied late, scoring at 28:50 and 29:20 to knot the game with 40 seconds to play.

In overtime, the Wildcats scored 36 seconds after the teams changed sides in the first overtime, with Katelyn Mongold netting the game winner on a free position shot.

Northern Michigan was led by Emily Renfrew with seven points on five goals and two assists while Madeline Bittell added four goals and an assist. Bittell also led NMU with eight draws. Cam Stilson earned the win, making 10 saves.
