Golden Bears earn 2-1 win over Winona State

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Concordia women's soccer team improved to 5-4-1 (4-2-1 NSIC) on Friday night after a 2-1 win over Winona State. The match was the first of two of Homecoming weekend with the other to be played on Sunday.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Glowinski found the back of the net for the second time in the 2021 season, placing her in the top four goalscorers for her squad. Her goal came in the 70th minute. She also managed a shot and a shot on goal on the night.

Freshman forward Corynn Grabau found herself on the pitch for 26 minutes and yet still earned her third goal of the season in the 42nd minute, placing her tied for second with Jena Berkland and following behind Katie Anderson. Grabau also took one shot and one shot on goal in the contest.

Sophie Pawlyshyn, a sophomore midfielder, is now her squad's assist leader after aiding in the Glowinski goal with three assists on the season. She had the only assist of the night.

Defenders Cayla Renwick and Tori Miller, midfielder Ciara Bailey, as well as goalkeeper Jessi Jordan, all played in the full 90 minutes on Friday. They all place in the top five spots for their squad in total minutes played in 2021. Jordan faced 13 shots, made six saves, and allowed only one goal.

Katie Anderson continues to remain near the top of the NSIC in shots and shots on goal. Through ten games played, she sits at first with 52 shots and second with 23 shots on goal.

As a squad, the Golden Bears were even with their opponents, each with 13 shots. The Warriors edged the Bears with seven shots on goal compared to only four. It was the CSP squad who maintained the majority of possession 67% to 33%.

Head Coach Steve Bellis shared his thoughts on the evening. "Tonight's performance warranted a win - the second half got too frantic for our liking … but overall the Bears deserve credit."

To conclude Homecoming weekend, the Golden Bears will face off against the visiting Peacocks of Upper Iowa (5-4, 3-4 NSIC) on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
