MOORHEAD, Minn.- The Concordia women's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-2-1 NSIC) defeated MSU Moorhead (0-9, 0-6) on Sunday afternoon, 4-0. The Golden Bears split the weekend on the road with a loss in Aberdeen, S.D. on Friday night.
Head Coach Steve Bellis was impressed with the effort on the pitch as he noted, "We showed some character to bounce back today. We played some nice stuff on a very tricky surface."
Four separate Bears had goals on the afternoon, aiding in the CSP win. Freshman forward Sammy Ponsonby, freshman forward Corynn Grabau, and sophomore midfielder Jessica Timpane each earned their second goal of the season.
Junior midfielder/ forward Jessica Timpane moves to three goals on the season with her one goal on the afternoon. She is now the Golden Bears' second-most scorer, following Katie Anderson.
Ailee Snapko and Leah Engh each had an assist in the match. Snapko's assist gets her on the sheet for the first time in the 2021 season, while Engh's assist is her second.
The Golden Bear squad out-shot the Dragons 14-3, with 13-2 shots on goal. Berkland, Snapko, Anderson, Timpane, and Grabau all had two shots on goal apiece
Goalkeeper Jessi Jordan faced three shots and made two saves while earning her third shutout win this season. Coach Bellis commented that he is happy with the shut out and enjoyed the "efforts to maintain that" throughout the full 90 minutes.
The Golden Bears will play at home next weekend during Homecoming. The squad will play Winona State on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. then play Upper Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. Coach Bellis looks forward to the next series. "We are excited to get back to playing at the Foam next weekend!"
