Golden Bears gear up for Flyer Intercollegiate this week

CSP will compete in the 18-team tournament on Monday and Tuesday

ST. PAUL, Minn.  – The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team will head to Palos Park, Ill. this week for the Flyer Intercollegiate hosted by Lewis University at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club.

The Flyer Intercollegiate Golf Tournament will be held on the Dubsdread Course at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. A total of 18 teams from 17 different schools will compete in the tournament, with host school Lewis fielding two teams. Minot State will join Concordia-St. Paul as the only two NSIC programs in the tournament.

Taylor Zack, Thomas Huettl, Grange Farr, Brandon Sperling, and Nick Navarro will make up CSP's five-man squad for the tournament.

Last time out, the Golden Bears competed at the MSSU Fall Invitational in Monkey Island, Okla. where they finished in 15th place with 926 strokes (+62).

Concordia competed in a highly competitive field of 18 teams and were the only representative from the NSIC. Oklahoma Christian and Hutchinson Community College tied for the tournament title, with each posting 54-hole scores of 864 (even).

Mateo Pulcini of Oklahoma Christian and Harry Crockett of Hutchinson Community College tied for the top spot in the tournament and earned individual medalist honors with three-round scores of 213 (-3).  

Junior Thomas Huettl remained in the top spot for CSP, tying for 60th overall with 229 strokes (+13) after turning in rounds of 76, 77, and 76.

Nick Navarro and Brandon Sperling each tied for 69th with three-round scores of 232 (+16), with Navarro carding a 76 and Sperling posting a 77 in the final round.

Taylor Zack landed in a tie for 78th, shooting a 78 in round three to bring his tournament total to 234 (+18). Kurt Lambert capped off the CSP golfers in the tournament, finishing 90th with 240 strokes (+24).

The Golden Bears will return to the course at the Flyer Intercollegiate hosted by Lewis at Cog Hill Country Club in Chicago, Ill. On October 4 and 5.
