MANKATO, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul swim team competed in its second event of the 2021-22 season at the MSU Double Dual hosted by Minnesota State University on Friday evening.

The Golden Bears were defeated by the Mavericks and Mustangs, but the highlight was freshman Farida Maher capturing a pair of first place finishes in the 1000 yard and 500 yard freestyle with times of 10:48.12 and 5:16.38, respectively. She won the 1000 yard freestyle by 43 seconds and the 500 yard freestyle by five seconds. She also swam the first leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay, producing the top time (25.30) of the nine leadoff swimmers.

Other highlights for the squad in its second competition of the year include Sydney Fleming's fifth place finish in a field of 14 competitors in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.44) and Stephanie De Leon taking seventh out of 12 in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.52), just ahead of Laura Vekony (1:07.95) in ninth and a spot behind Maher's sixth place finish (1:04.39) in a tight finish.

The Golden Bears are back in action on the local scene next Saturday at the Hamline Invitational at the Bush Center Pool in St. Paul. It's the first of three events in St. Paul for the team this season.
