ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 14
th-seeded Concordia-St. Paul Rocket League team (2-8) saw their inaugural season come to a close on Monday night as they were swept by third-seeded Boise State (8-3) in the opening round of bracket play in the NACE Fall Rocket League Championship.
The Golden Bears came into the postseason riding high after a decisive sweep in the final round of the group stage, but they were slowed down by a high-powered Boise State squad in the first round of the postseason.
Phung Khang tallied the lone goal of the night for the squad while she also added three saves and five shots on the day.
Rocket Robertson added a career-best eight saves while
David Voelker put up six saves and a shot in the loss.
Concordia fell behind at the 4:42 mark of the opening game but remained in it until the final minute as they scored a goal with 57 seconds to play to cut the deficit to 5-1. That would be all the closer they would get, however, as BSU added three goals in the final eight seconds to bring the score to the final mark of 8-1.
Game two followed a similar script as Boise State opened the scoring just 12 seconds in before adding to their lead throughout to claim a comfortable 7-0 win.
BSU picked up where they left off in the third game as they scored twice in the first 35 seconds before cruising to an 8-0 victory to complete the sweep.
