4.26.21

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Golden Bears Esports League of Legends team (2-2) took on Southern Virginia University in the first game of the consolation bracket of the Spring 2021 League of Legends Tournament.

The Golden Bears took down Southern Virginia University in sweeping fashion as they took game one and two from Southern Virginia on Monday night. The next match for the Golden Bears is yet to be determined. It will take place next week and their opponent will be based on how other teams perform in the consolation bracket.

Matthew Benolken highlighted game one as he and the Golden Bears came flying out of the gate and Southern Virginia could not stay with the Golden Bears. Benolken packed CSP with 13 kills and had seven kills in a row to go on a spree. He also collected 14,111 gold which was second best on the team.

Josiah Skorseth stole the show in game two for Concordia. He went off in game two with six kills, with a killing spree of two and led the squad with 15,214 gold collected throughout the match.

CSP ran a non-traditional APC botlane. Instead of your traditional botlane that focused on a ranged champion doing AD, your Bears used a Seraphine/Soraka combo that focused solely on healing and waiting until later in the game to use their skills.

SVU ran a traditional ADC/Support botlane with CoolLife and Swammer trying to farm early with their range and use any lead to win team fights later.

CSP chose to forgo any lead early so they could have healing and empower their other three members to succeed in team fights with powerful heals from StarChilds (Cassandra Peters) Soraka and the ultimate ability Bee Lor's Seraphine, which turned out to be crucial in team fights and sustaining small skirmishes throughout both matches.
