ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Golden Bear women's basketball team (5-14, 2-11 NSIC) is set to host the Minnesota State Mavericks (6-13, 4-9 NSIC) for their last weekday game of the regular season. The two teams will face off on Tuesday, January 23rd at 6 p.m. at the Gangelhoff Center.

Concordia is coming off a weekend split after defeating Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night in a thrilling overtime game that ended with junior
Anna Schmitt hitting a buzzer beater three to break a 94-all tie to lift the Bears to victory. The following day the Bears were on the losing end of an 86-54 decision against Sioux Falls.
On Friday against the Mustangs, Schmitt led the Golden Bears, scoring a career-high 37 points, shooting 57.1% from the field, including knocking down four of five (80.0%) from three and nine of ten (90.0%) from the line. The junior guard also tallied six assists on the night. It was Schmitt's second 30+ point game this season, topping her 33-point effort against #10 Michigan Tech on November 25
th, 2017. With the performance on Friday, Schmitt moved up three more spots in the CSP all-time scoring list and is now 13
th with 1,344 career points.
Center
Lindsay Dorr and guard
Ellie Gess also ended in double figures for the Bears. Dorr finished with a season-high 19 points and a secured a career-high 16 rebounds. Gess ended with 16 points, and like Schmitt, drained four in five attempts from beyond the arc. Junior
Hanna Vidlund helped out offensively as well, dishing out a career-high seven assists. The team shot a solid 48.6% from the floor and 47.6% from three. They also cashed in 15 points from the charity stripe.
On Saturday afternoon the Bears ran into a hot shooting Sioux Falls team that hit 51.8% of their shots from the floor, including hitting 13 threes in the contest. The Cougars' guard Mariah Szymanski was especially productive, scoring 43 points in the game, as she hit nine threes in ten attempts.
Schmitt was again the leading scorer for the Bears, scoring 17 points. Dorr compiled her second double-double of the weekend, scoring 13 points and nabbing 13 rebounds.
MINNESOTA STATE SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears are now an even 18-18 in their all-time series history with the Mavericks. The series has gone back-and-forth since December 2014, as the Bears have alternated between victory and defeat in the last seven times that they have played Minnesota State. Three of those last seven matchups have been particularly close, being decided by less than ten points. In home games against the Mavericks, the Bears own a 9-5 record, and last defeated Minnesota State at home on January 19
th, 2016.
LAST MEETING WITH MSU
The Bears fell to Minnesota State 70-45 in their last meeting back in December of this season. Despite a strong second quarter, CSP trailed by ten at the half and were held to only 16 points in the second half. Mankato shot 41.3% (26-63) from the field and hit 50.0% (6-12) of their three-point attempts in the victory, and capitalized on 23 points off of turnovers and 15 second chance points.
Junior
Kayla Miller was the leading scorer for the Bears, scoring 11 efficient points, hitting 3-4 from the field. Gess also ended in double figures with ten, while also tallying two rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals.
Brianna Miller and
Ayla Lemke were the leading rebounders for CSP, grabbing five apiece. The bench was particularly active in the game scoring 27 points.
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
Minnesota State is 6-13 on the year and 4-9 in conference play, with conference wins against Upper Iowa, Minot State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Concordia. The Mavericks are coming off an 81-53 win over Southwest Minnesota State when Claire Jordan scored 30 points, shooting an impressive 70.6% from the field, while hitting three from the behind the arc.
As a team the Mavericks are averaging 66.1 points per game, which is 5.6 less than their opponents are averaging. They are shooting 38.1% from the field and 30.3% from the three-point line. The team averages 38.7 rebounds per game, which is sixth highest in the league and 8.1 steals per game, which ranks fourth in the NSIC.
