Golden Bears wrap up regular season road slate this weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (11-13, 7-11 NSIC) closes out their regular season road slate this weekend as they travel to Upper Iowa (5-19, 4-14 NSIC) on Friday and Winona State (23-2, 16-2 NSIC) on Saturday.

UIU SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears enter have dominated the all-time series against the Peacocks as they enter Friday's matchup with a record of 19-3. CSP won 19 of the first 20 meetings, including the first 13 in a row, before UIU claimed wins in St. Paul in the last two contests.

LAST MEETING VS UIU
Back on December 12th, saw a 19 point lead disappear in a 71-68 loss to Upper Iowa.

The Golden Bears got off to a lightning quick start as they ran out to a 19 point advantage in the opening quarter, but they were outscored by a scrappy Peacocks squad in each of the final three quarters.

CSP held UIU to just one field goal and a 12.5% shooting percentage in the first quarter before Upper Iowa hit 47.6% (20-42) over the final 30 minutes of the game. On the other side, Concordia knocked down 55.2% (16-29) in the first half and connected on 36.0% (9-25) after the break.

Lauren Shifflett led the way with a game-high 18 points on an efficient 7-11 from the floor as she added three threes made in the game. Mishayla Jones and Anna Schmitt joined her in double figures as Jones put up 14 points, four assists and three boards while Schmitt contributed 12 points, five steals and three assists.
 
WSU SERIES HISTORY
Concordia enters Saturday's matchup with a record of 28-14 against Winona State. The best stretch for the Golden Bears came from 2000-2011 when they won 19 of 20 during that span. WSU has responded with seven wins in the last 10 meetings since then, including the last three in a row.

LAST MEETING VS WSU
Back on December 11th, dropped their NSIC home opener by a score of 84-66.

The Golden Bears made things interesting with a strong start in the first half but the high-powered, league-leading Warriors offense proved to be too much as they pulled away in the second half.
 
Anna Schmitt was extremely active on both ends of the court for the Golden Bears as she matched a game high with 21 points on 10-18 shooting to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Kyrah Fredenburg continued to add to that total with 13 boards as she also put up a career-high 13 points on 5-10 from the field.

LAST TIME OUT
Over the weekend, Concordia split on the road at Minot State and U-Mary.

On Friday, the Golden Bears saw a double digit second half lead disappear in 71-66 loss at Minot State.

On Saturday, the Golden Bears went into half down 44-36 before outscoring U-Mary 60-31 after the break to claim a 96-75 win. The team hit a season-best 15 threes, including 10 in the second half, as they finished with their most made threes since 2011.

Lauren Shifflett averaged a team-best 20.0 points along with 4.0 assists while hitting 10 threes over the weekend. The sophomore scored 26 points and handed out a career-best six assists while matching her career high with six threes made in a win over U-Mary while her six threes tied for seventh most in program history and marked the third time she's hit that mark this season.

NSIC LEADERS
The Golden Bears have seen several different players shine in different areas this season with six different players registering in as top-10 performers in nine different statistical categories in the conference.

Kyrah Fredenburg leads the way with a league-leading 10.5 boards per game. Her mark is a full 1.4 rebounds higher than any other player in the NSIC.

Anna Schmitt ranks highly in a pair categories as she ranks fifth in scoring (15.3 PPG) and seventh in assists per game (4.0), She leads all freshman in the league in both categories.

Mishayla Jones and Lauren Shifflett also rank in the top-10 in a pair of categories as well, as Jones sits in fifth in assists per game (4.0) and seventh steals per game (1.8) while Shifflett ranks fourth in three made per game (2.3) and ninth in scoring (14.8).

In addition, Caitlyn Russell ranks third in blocked shots (1.9) and fifth in field goal percentage (51.5%) while Kionda Nicks ranks ninth in blocks (1.3) as well.
