Golden Bears close out five game homestand on Tuesday night

CSP faces MSU at Gangelhoff Center at 6 p.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (7-10, 3-8 NSIC) finishes off a five game homestand as they face Minnesota State (5-10, 4-7 NSIC) on Tuesday night at Gangelhoff Center.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
The Mavericks are coming off a weekend split in Mankato in which they grabbed an 82-71 win over Bemidji State before falling to Minnesota Crookston 91-90 in OT.

Claire Ziegler and Britney Scherber have carried much of the scoring load for MSU this season as Ziegler comes in averaging 14.7 points per game while Scherber has poured in 14.4 points per game. Ziegler also leads the way on the glass with 8.7 rebounds per game while Scherber averages a team-best 2.4 assists per game.

Minnesota State has allowed a league-high 75.9 points per game while scoring the seventh-most points per game at 70.4. They join CSP as the only two teams in the league to both average and allow over 70 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears and Mavericks have split the all-time series as Concordia and Minnesota State have each won 16 of the 32 previous meetings. It has been a series of runs as Minnesota State won the first six meetings before Concordia won 14 of the next 18 meetings. MSU has regained control over the past few years as they have won six of the last eight.

LAST MEETING VS MSU
Concordia nearly erased a 22-point fourth quarter deficit as they fell just short in a 92-87 loss at Minnesota State.

The Golden Bears trailed by double digits for nearly the entire second half, including an 83-61 deficit with 7:01 to play, before making a furious comeback down the stretch to make it a one possession game in the final minute before running out of time.

Concordia's offense heated up as the game went on as they improved their shooting percentage each quarter. CSP hit 28.6% (6-21) in the first, 30.4% (7-23) in the second, 50.0% (9-18) in the third and 60.9% (14-23) in the fourth.
 
Leading the way, Lauren Shifflett and Anna Schmitt each broke the 20-point mark as Shifflett finished with a team-best 23 points and Schmitt added 20 points. Shifflett hit five threes and Schmitt chipped in five boards, five assists and three steals as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Golden Bears picked up the weekend sweep of Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State at home.

Head coach Amanda Behnke picked up her first career win by a score of 80-73 on Friday night in a game in which Kyrah Fredenburg grabbed 21 boards to match Behnke's DII-era program record.

On Saturday, The Golden Bears led nearly wire-to-wire as they dominated play for the second night in a row and claimed an 83-76 win over the Beavers.

Anna Schmitt and Mishayla Jones were a dominant duo offensively as Schmitt averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 assists while Jones averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 boards and 4.0 assists. Fredenburg was a force on the glass as she finished with 18.5 rebounds per game in the two games, giving her nine games with double-digit rebounds this season.

NSIC LEADERS
The Golden Bears have seen several different players shine in different areas this season with four different players registering in as top-10 performers in seven different statistical categories in the conference.

Perhaps most impressively, Kyrah Fredenburg has been a force on the glass with a league-leading 10.6 boards per game, a mark that is 1.5 rebounds higher than any other player in the NSIC.

Anna Schmitt ranks highly in multiple categories as she ranks sixth in scoring (15.6 PPG), seventh in assists per game (3.9) and seventh in field goal percentage (48.7%) while also ranking 11th in steals per game (1.8). She leads all freshman in the league in each category.

In addition, the duo of Mishayla Jones and Caitlyn Russell rank near the top in the NSIC in blocks and steals, respectively. while Jones sits in tenth with 1.9 steals per game while Russell sits in eighth in blocks per game with 1.3. Jones also ranks sixth with 3.9 assists per game.
