Cross Country | 10.11.14

KENOSHA, Wis. - For the first time in over a decade, Concordia-St. Paul men's cross country had five runners post a time of 29:20 or better on an 8k course as the team finished in 11th out of 17 today at the Lucian Rosa Invite hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.

The team was led by Josh Smith as he set a new Concordia course record at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, topping the previous mark by 11.5 seconds and breaking an 18-year old program record.

Among the five men and two women runners today, there were four new personal best and two season best times produced.

The team will take a week off and return to the course on Friday, October 24 at the St. Cloud State Invite.

Josh Smith – 26:42.5 – 54th place – Josh breaks by 11.5 seconds the Concordia University course record on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country course.  He establishes a season best time and his 3rd fastest time of his career.  He runs the 7th fastest race by a Concordia junior only behind 3 individual athletes (Marcus Breitbarth, Alex Payne, and Travis Wagers).
Nic Rudolph – 27:09.6 – 84th Place – Nic Rudolph runs the 3rd fastest Concordia race on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.  He sets a season best time by running 87 seconds faster than 2 weeks ago.  He runs the 2nd fastest time of his career only 8.5 seconds away from his career PR.  Nic ran the 12th fastest race by a Concordia Senior only behind 5 guys (Collin Bredeson (4 races), Jonathan Breitbarth (4 races), Marcus Breitbarth (1 race), Jake Womeldorf (1 race), Travis Wagers (1 race).
Sam Anderson – 27:37.9 – 106th place – Sam Anderson runs the 5th fastest Concordia race on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.  He establishes a new personal best time running 12.9 seconds faster than his race at St. Cloud State last year.
Tyler Karl – 29:17.3 – 174th place – Tyler Karl sets a new personal best mark by running 1 minute and 43.9 seconds.  Tyler Karl runs the 12th fastest Concordia race on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course and 3rd fastest by a first year runner (Kyle Peterman and Collin Bredeson).
Andrew Gilhart – 29:18.1 – 175th place – Andrew Gilhart runs a season best time by running 2 minutes and 20.5 seconds faster than two weeks ago.  Andrew Gilhart runs the 13th fastest Concordia race on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country course and 3rd fast by a Concordia senior runner (Jonathan Breitbarth and Nic Rudolph).

Erin Spatenka – 19:41.7 – 78th place – Erin runs a new personal best time improving by 33.4 seconds upon her time from the Luther All-America Invite 4 weeks ago.  Erin ran the 3rd fastest time Concordia time on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country course (Janet Brownawell and Emily Stanzyk).  Erin becomes the 11th fastest Concordia woman in school history for 5 Kilometers.  Erin posts the 7th fastest race by a Concordia sophomore only behind 4 ladies (Kari Breitkreutz (2 races), Janet Brownawell (2 races), Amanda Mueller (1 race), and Sarah Keiser (1 race)).
Jordan Gray – 21:16.8 – 163rd Place – Jordan runs the fastest race ever by a Concordia first year woman at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.  She runs the 7th fastest time by a Concordia runner on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.
