James McNear became the school's all-time leader in passing yards Saturday as the Bears downed UW-River Falls 47-25 in front of 1217 fans at Griffin Stadium. McNear entered the game needing 11 yards to pass Guy Parker (1989-93). McNear completed 13-20 for 164 yards and one touchdown. He now has 5,543 career passing yards.
UW-River Falls started the game recovering an onside kick, and Beau Debruin ran 16 yards to give the Falcons a quick 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game. UW-RF then recovered another onside kick, but the Bears defense held.
The Bears got on the board on a seven-yard McNear run at 8:42 of the first quarter and took the lead after a five-yard catch by
Wesley Hill at :47 of the first.
UW-RF tied the score 14-14 six seconds into the second quarter on a 10-yard John Peterlik run. After that, it was all Concordia on the scoreboard, as the Bears would outscore UW-RF 33-11 in the final three quarters.
James McNear ran for 150 yards on 16 carries and had three touchdowns for the day. As a team, the Bears ran for 292 yards on the game, while UW-RF had 404 rushing in the game. CSP also had 242 yards through the air.
Montez Bridgeforth caught five passes for 80 yards.
On the defensive end,
Jeremy Axel had 12 tackles, and
Brian Doyle had ten. The Bears forced six fumbles by the Falcons and recovered five of them.
