James McNear ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in leading Concordia to a 34-20 win over MSU Moorhead for Concordia's Homecoming. McNear ran for 118 yards on 15 carries and led the Bears offense to its third straight game of over 200 yards rushing. CSP finished with 241 yards rushing in the game.
Aaron Cawthorn opened the scoring for Concordia in the first quarter with a one-yard run to cap a 36-yard drive on five plays. McNear scored the next two Concordia touchdowns on a 20-yard run and a 16-yard scamper.
Montez Bridgeforth caught a 23-yard McNear pass with :25 left in the second quarter to give the Bears a 27-0 halftime lead.
MSU Moorhead got on the board in the third quarter on a Bert Smith 26-yard run four plays after Joe Larson intercepted a
Jeremy Axel pass at the Concordia 29-yard line. MSU then recovered the kickoff at the CU 38-yard line but failed to capitalize.
Wesley Hill scored his 7th touchdown of the season with a five-yard pass from McNear in the back of the end zone with 6:00 left in the game to give Concordia a 34-6 lead. MSU Moorhead followed that up with a 44-yard strike from Derek Smith to Matt Zupke less than two minutes later to cut the score to 34-13. Brian Ferris rounded out the scoring with a 46-yard fumble recovery for MSUM to make the final margin 34-20.
The Bears offense went over the 400-yard total offense mark for the eighth time this season. McNear completed 16-28 passes for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 118 yards.
Aaron Cawthorn also had 78 yards on 15 carries.
The defense held MSU Moorhead to a season-low 194 yards of total offense. The Bears allowed only 24 yards in the first half.
Brian Doyle led the defense with ten tackles, while
Travis Mellor had nine.
Concordia improves to 6-2 (3-1 NSIC), while MSU Moorhead falls to 0-8 (0-4 NSIC). The Bears return to action on Oct. 23 as they travel to Wayne State. Game time is set for 12:30.
