Todd Strop was hired as Concordia's assistant coach and defensive coordinator in January, 2013.

Strop previously held the same position at the University of Minnesota Duluth from February of 2010 to April of 2012. He orchestrated a Bulldog defense that led the country in fewest points allowed (12.7) as they captured the program’s second NCAA Championship in three seasons.

The program produced five All-American defensive players, and nine All-NSIC First Team selections with Strop at the helm of the defense. In 2011, UMD ranked seventh in the nation in total defense (275.1) and 11th in rushing defense (101.57).

Prior to joining the UMD staff, Strop was an assistant coach at The University of South Dakota for the 2008 and 2009 seasons in USD’s first two years at the Football Championship Subdivision level (formerly DI-AA). He was promoted to Coyotes’ defensive coordinator for the 2009 season after being hired as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach in 2008. While at USD, the Coyotes reigned as Great West Conference leaders in scoring defense and rushing defense. He was also defensive coordinator at Hamline University in 2007 at the Division III level.

His 19-year coaching resume includes four defensive coordinator positions across the NCAA Division I (FCS), II and III levels along with two head coaching positions at the DIII and high school levels. In addition, Strop spent time at NCSA Athletic Recruiting as a national collegiate scout after leaving UMD.

Strop also has prior head coaching experience, leading the University of Wisconsin-Stout from 2004-06 after serving as defensive coordinator there from 1998-04. Under his leadership, the Ladysmith, Wis. native coached the Blue Devils to a 14-15 record. In his nine total years at UW-Stout, the Blue Devils ranked first in the WIAC in total defense four times, and in 2002 featured the top-ranked run defense in DIII.

His first head coaching position was at the high school level for Durand High School in Wisconsin from 1995-97.

His coaching career began with an assistant job working with defensive backs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1992 and 1993, before taking a graduate assistant position at Ohio University in 1994 working with defensive backs.

Prior to joining the sidelines with a head set, Strop was a three-time letterman at the University of Wisconsin and was an All-State defensive back and three-time All-Conference quarterback at Ladysmith (Wis.) High School.

He earned a B.S. degree in history from the University of Wisconsin in 1992 and acquired a teaching degree in 1994 from UW-Platteville. He completed his Master’s in athletic administration from Ohio University in 1995.

Strop resides in River Falls, Wis. and has a son, Tyler, and two daughters, Kylie and Keyah.
