HUDSON, Wis. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up play at the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl on Tuesday afternoon at the Troy Burne Golf Club. The Golden Bears took second place after shooting a collective 592 (+24) across both rounds. The final round saw CSP card a 296 (+12) on a sunny, 74 degree afternoon in Hudson, Wisconsin.
Freshman Brennan Weckwerth notched a first place finish in his collegiate debut, putting together a 71 (E) in round two to card a 141 (-1) for the tournament. Weckwerth recorded four birdies in the final round of play, starting the day with a birdie on the first hole, 600 yard, par five.
The freshman birdied the par five fifth hole as well to shoot a 35 at the turn. On the back nine Weckwerth added two more birdies on 10 and the 617 yard, par five, 16th hole to end the day at even par. Weckwerth was the only golfer to finish at or below par across both rounds of play, while ranking second among the field with seven birdies across both rounds.
The win is the first of the freshman's career while also marking the first time a Golden Bear has taken home the title at the Fall Brawl since the event began in 2023.
Tyler Gandrud carded a 74 (+3) in the final round of competition for a two round score of 148 (+7) to finish in a tie for 10th place in his CSP debut. Gandrud birdied four times in the final round of play, including three on the back nine where he finished with a 35.
Senior Josh Esterley carded a 74 (+3) in the final round as well, finishing with a two round score of 149 (+8) and a 15th place finish. Esterley birdied twice with both coming on the front nine on holes one and five.
The final scoring member for CSP was Sean Leutner who shot a 77 (+6) in round two for a 36 hole score of 151 (+10) and a 21st place finish. Leutner tallied three birdies across the final round with a score of 38 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine.
Carson Boe rounded out the CSP five with a final round score of 84 (+13) and a 36 hole total of 159 (+18) for a 44th place finish.
Four Golden Bears competed independently with Camden O'Malley leading the way after carding a 72 (+1) in the final round for a score of 161 (+20) and a 51st place finish.
Jayden Manthei shot a 75 (+4) in round two to cap his CSP debut with a 36 hole total of 157 (+16). Cale Thompson shot a 76 (+5) in round two for a 36 hole total of 153 (+12), Sam Rudolph carded a 76 (+5) and finished with a score of 153 (+12) as well.
CSP finished just two strokes shy of the team title, with UMary taking the crown behind a two round score of 590 (+22). CSP ended the tournament with more pars than any other squad with a total of 109, while the Marauders led the field in birdies with 25.
The Golden Bears are back in action next week at the Jewel Invitational at the Jewel in Lake City, Minnesota. Round one of the two round tournament gets underway, Monday, September 21.
