HUDSON, Wis. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up round one of the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl in a tie for first place at the Troy Burne Golf Club. The Golden Bears shot a collective 296 (+12) while fighting through rainy and windy course conditions throughout the day. 

Freshman Brennan Weckwerth led the way in round one shooting a 70 (-1) in the opening round, ending the day in first place individually with a two stroke lead. The freshman is the only men's golfer to card under par in the opening round after starting the day with a birdie on hole 11 and adding to more on holes 15 and 10. 

Weckwerth shot a 34 on the back nine, while carding a 36 on the front nine, dropping just two shots in round one with 13 pars on the scorecard. 

Sean Leutner shot a 75 (+4) in the opening round ending the day in a tie for 12th place with Tyler Gandrud who shot a 75 (+4) in his Golden Bear debut as well. 

Leutner started the day by making par on each of his first five holes before a double on hole 17. The sophomore recovered well by birdying the 600 yard, par five, first hole and ripping off a run of eight consecutive pars to shoot a 35 on the front nine and ending the day with 14 pars, tied for second most in the field. 

Gandrud was consistent throughout the afternoon, leading the pack with a total of 15 pars, while shooting a 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine. 

Carson Boe carded a 76 (+5) in the opening round to end the day in a tie for 18th place with Josh Esterley who also shot a 76. 

Esterley birdied three times in the opening round, while Boe managed 13 pars to round out the scoring for CSP. 

Four Concordia golfers competed independently with Cale Thompson leading the pack after carding a 78 (+7) in round one. Thompson was one of just three players to record an eagle in the opening round, with his coming on the 355 yard, par four sixth hole. 

Sam Rudolph shot a 78 (+7) as well, notching two birdies in round one to end the day in a tie for 29th place. 

Jayden Manthei made his CSP debut as well, shooting a 83 (+12) on Monday afternoon, while Camden O'Malley carded a 90 (+19). 

UMary ended the day in a tie for first place with the Golden Bears after shooting a 296 (+12) as well. Minnesota State sits seven strokes behind the Golden Bears and Marauders in third place at 19-over-par. 

The second and final round of the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl gets underway tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at the Troy Burne Golf Course.
